The reason it didn't work is because GTA actually requires something from the v2.0 update (I can't remember offhand exactly what it needed though). Games that 'require' v2.0, for the most part, don't actually need it, which is why they work with programs like UMD No Update. GTA, Smackdown vs Raw 2k6 (I think), and probably a couple of others, all require a part of the v2.0 update, and if you just run them with No Update, that part isn't there, so they don't run as a result.

So far the MPH Firmware Loader is looking the most promising approach to fix this though; once they can work out a way to run the game using the firmware on the memory stick and not on the flash chip, then I can imagine LOTS of people will be going back to v1.5. But for the moment, GTA requires v2.0, there's no way around it.

I think the eboot.bin/boot.bin and the prx files is encrypted and only the 2.0 fw can decrypt them.

nope, then aenea's decrypter would've decrypted it...
ill tell you what the problem is...
a few new games like gta, wwe, etc, use a few new prxes which are only present on 2.0 and above for a few functions...
it has been tried to load those prxes in 1.5 but the 1.5 then isnt able to decrypt them properly...
thats why mph's fw loader would be the best option, since it would properly emulate the firmware and make the game think its running on a 2.0 since those prxes would be working...

thats how the net works and thats how the new games will work...

But cant we first decrypt the prx files and the load them into 1.5?

im not sure...
but it has surely been tried before...and unsuccessfully...
the prxes need a true 2.0 environment...
they dont work properly when started in 1.5

I vaguely recall someone saying they tried it, and the PSP became really unstable.

isn't that the whole point of the firmware loaders?
to emulate firmwares?

Pretty much, yes. The ultimate goal of the firmware loader would be to fully emulate all the features of a particular firmware, eliminating the need to update at all (although that still won't help people who can't use v1.5...).

I _think_ all that needs to be done with the current emulator though is to work out a way to hijack prx references when a UMD is running and redirect them (it's being done _out_ of game now, but not during a game, which is why GTA has issues).

Has anyone tried this?

1. Dump the GTA LSS Offical UMD with fast loader...
2. Get UMD Emulator and set it to system menu.
3. Start UMD Emulation but dont launch GTA.
4. Dump 2.00 firmware with FakeUpdater or w/e.
5. Use the latest MPH Firmware Loader, and load up 2.00 firmware.
6. Now the UMD is still being emulated so use the shortcut to launch GTA.

Why do i think there might be an idea here? Because 2 emulations are taking place, but im not sure if the UMD loading in MPH Firmware loader is using 2.00 resources, because if it is it will have all the AVC resources it requires...

Reasons I havn't tried:

- Because it dosn't work with the real UMD.
- Because i havn't bought GTA, and am not going to just to try this...
- Someone must have thought of it before...

I came up with this idea whilst using umd emulator to play one of the umds i dumped onto my memory stick whilst i had a dvd in the drive. I quit the game, and i was trying one of the 2.00 browser guides, and loaded up firmware 2.00, and i rested over the umd icon, and woah, it was still da game i had emulated... I pressed the shortcut to run inserted umd, and tada... ( Ok i didnt really go this far, but try this if you own the real game as i do not... )
