Ever noticed that every downgrader for v2.01 and above that's been written lately has been written by someone who refuses or is unable to test it? It's generally because they've got a v2.0 PSP themselves and don't want to upgrade, or because they don't have GTA.
You're right though jse, from what's been found so far, the GTA exploit has _no_ access to the PSP flash. That means right now, you can't downgrade one. The libungif method is still looking promising, but hasn't produced anything just yet, so for the moment, these downgraders are just fantasies that won't work. (Once someone posts one and actually claims to have tested it, I might think otherwise, but so far, EVERY person who says they've written a v2.01 downgrader hasn't actually used it themselves).

*nods* That's inevitably the result. Page 9 or 10 (I just finished reading it myself) they started saying something about "well perhaps the PSP is like a PC and has different modes" or something like that. I had to laugh at that point, Fanjita and others worked that out a few weeks ago ^^ Seems half the people who try these things completely disregard all the other work that's been done in this area. And those that don't think that somehow, their method will work despite evidence against it.

People should still try it to see what it does. Even if it tried to access the flash it couldn't because in the GTA Hack, the flash is off-limits. There is absolutely no way to access the flash. So it has a 0% chance of bricking your PSP.

i think we should try these 'downgraders' because we know they cant write to the flash. but if one was a bricker and did somehow write to the flash we could modify it and make it a real downgrader

It can stilll write to FLASH0 and FLASH1 through Low-end hexadecimal Editing. This way is very unconventional due to you haveing to find the hexadecimal code of where you want to edit the FLASH, but this was how the 2.0 Downgrader did it seeing that it loaded in [User Mode] space.

FYI there are 2 flavours of 2.0 downgrader that have been released: - MPH-style : use FAT-level access to make the INDEX.DAT file writeable. - SXT-style: just delete the INDEX.DAT file (!), to make it writeable. Neither works with GTA. There's a 3rd possible approach (using chattr), but no public downgraders are using it. I was hoping to use it in my 2.01 downgrader, but since the flash is locked, it was just academic in the end. Various other variations to try to access the flash also didn't work.
