An FM Transmitter should work just fine for you. These little devices hook up to a standard headphone jack and broadcast an FM signal (on a blank station) to your car antena.

$20 FM Transmitter

This one only broadcasts on 88.1 to 88.9 frequencies

$33 FM Transmitter

This one covers the whole FM range.

You can find them at just about any electronic store (or Wal-Mart type store). I just used the Belkin ones as an example since those are the ones I carry at the Wal-Mart I work for.

Wouldn't one of those casset tape with the headphone jack work with the PSP? Hopefully you know what I meen. lol. The ones most people use to get portable cd players to work with the tape player. Just wondering, you could get nice surround sound while playing games too!

Cool thanks LinkBoy....one question, how bad do those fm transmitters sound? I assume it degrades the mp3 sound quality to about radio quality?

Yes, that would work as well. I use mine when I'm driving my dad's truck.

Monster, I haven't used them yet, so I don't know how the sound quality is. However, it is Belkin and they are a great brand.

If you can, get the $33 one (or anyone that allows you to chose your frequency), that way you have a better chance of finding an open frequency and avoid interfernce.

I used to use an FM transmitter with my minidisc player before i got a MD changer in my car. You really didnt lose much of the quality. The tramsnitter is maybe what? 6 feet from the antenna? At that distance there should be little to no interference.

Has anyone used these transmitters? I'd like to know how good they sound on songs with heavy bass. If they're not that good in that respect, I'd rather pay to get an input installed.

FM transmitters are generally hit and miss, especially if you can't find a completely dead station to tune it into.

If you are going for good quality, definately don't go this route.

Well I'm content with my cheap logitech 2.1 setup, so I'm not an audiophile, but I definately want something that sounds clear to the average person and is capable of some good bass.

Default BELKIN Tunecast II FM Transmitter

I have just purchased the above from eBay, and will report back when I have used it. A friend of mine uses the same for her iPod in the car, and the sound quality is fine, even loud it sounds ok, and thats in a new Merc too

The transmitters sound quality is fine...sounds good with bass too. I've used one with my Ipod for the three years that I've had it and it's great. Mine only tunes to 5 stations so if I'm in a bigger city it really doesn't work because there is so much interference.

Default I did change

Although I do have a FM transmitter I did recently add a cable to the cd player in my car so that I can use the auxilary on it. I did this just because it got annoying to have to always be changing the batteries in the transmitter and now the sound will never be cut out.

I was thinking about that. Where did you have that done and how much did it cost?

Here are your best bets of getting audio from your PSP or other player through your car stereo:

1. Aux inputs if your current head unit has any
2. Cassette tape adapter if your car still has one
3. FM Modulator if you have none of the above. These are the units that connect between your antenna cable and your head unit and provided a mini jack that you can plug into your PSP. This way you don't have to worry about signal strength.
4. FM transmitters, these are hit and miss.

One thing to keep in mind when using any of these products to connect your PSP to your stereo, home or car, is to find the right volume level on the PSP first so that it does not distort your sound quality when its being received by your stereo. If your PSP volume is too high, the outputted sound will tear (for the lack of a better description).
