![]() Here it is folks, what all you 2.50 PSP owners have been waiting for. Fanjita has released the first homebrew game for 2.50 Firmware - Tetris! As we mentioned yesterday, Fanjita has been hard at work bringing homebrew to 2.50 and 2.60 PSP's, and though he hasn't quite gotten 2.60 sorted out, he does think it will soon be possible. This builds off of Edison Carter's groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto Cheat Device and makes use of it to execute homebrew on 2.50 PSP's: This is a simple demonstration that homebrew games are possible for PSP firmwares v2.01 and v2.5 via the Grand Theft Auto savegame exploit. It is also a test of the general-purpose GTA loader that will be used as the basis for running the EBOOT loader on v2.01+.From PSPUpdates and QJ.net, thanks to all those who contributed to this project and for bringing homebrew to more PSP's! Good job Fanjita. Once you get a working eboot loader for 2.01+, then I may consider upgrading. Once Megaman comes out in the US, I do plan on buying it; so having homebrew on 2.5 is going to be a great thing
Keep up the good work. It's people like you who keep the community alive :P

Well he did say "I want".. I still wish we could have gone longer without someone mentioning downgraders or iso loaders, but oh well.
Back on topic... Great News for 2.50 owners everywhere and one step in the right direction. Keep up the good work Fanjita. |

if you look at the frong page where people leave comments, iso's is one of the biggest parts of why people want this. i don't condone his work, but if there was a way to do homebrew without the idea of iso's then i would be all for it. really i think fanjita is a smart guy and good at what he does. i just hate the idea that most would rather see this as a basis for ripping games. |

If anyone does have problems, I added a little bit of troubleshooting info on my website. If that doesn't help you, I'd be interested to hear about it by email or PM.

First of all, I want to thank you Fanjita. You´re doing loads for the scene and the 2.0+ users. After this Tetris release of yours, it seems that there is light at the end of the tunnel...
This Tetris game proves that it is possible to run homebrew on a 2.0+ Firmware, so... I would like to ask you one question if I may: Can we expect that your fantastic EBOOT Loader will be ported to the GTA Loader soon? or it will take long yet? Thanks in advance for your time, and keep on the fantastic work. You rule. |

With GTA, that's very difficult, because there's some stubborn stuff in the way that's still not completely understood, and there's been some pretty exotic stuff tried to get rid of it, with increasing but still not complete success. I have a workaround that attempts to modify the EBOOT's code when it is loaded, to fool it into loading to an alternative location, but that's not completely reliable (and I don't think it can ever be). For the initial release of the loader, I might try to make that as good as workable as it can be, but if we end up having to use that relocation technique then the compatibility rate won't be very good. At the moment, the EBOOT loader is able to load and run Nem's Hello World, and it can load and run its own menu, but it tends to crash most of the time. I've tested it on a few simple games, but they're not working too well either. It shouldn't take long to get some stuff working, though. The Tetris release is important, because it uses the same code to muscle GTA out of the way as the EBOOT loader is using, so getting it out and testing on as many different PSPs as possible is very useful. It's impossible to predict exactly how much longer the eboot loader will take before it's ready for an initial release, but I think the end of February is a realistic target, that can probably be beaten.

BTW (and I think this deserves its own post) : I heard a rumour that some stores in the US had recalled copies of GTA from their shelves, and recently restocked.
I don't know how true that is, or why it happened if it is true. But it seems right to warn people that there's a risk that new copies of GTA might have been fixed.

well if that is true, then it should say 2nd edition on it, like on newer copies of San Andreas, but i cant be sure. Luckily, i already have my copy, so now Ill just sit back and wait for this to hopefully work on 2.60

Great news!
I downloaded and transfered all the files to my PSP (2.01) this morning and tried it, worked perfectly. Though, I have one question, you see the game autoloaded and I wonder how I stop it from doing this. Do I only have to save once more to get a later date/timestamp on my regular savefile and then that one will autoload instead?! I'm terribly sorry if this question have been asked and answered before, if so I haven't noticed it. |
