wud it not be possible for sum1 2 write an update that wud be basically identical to 1.5 (in features like homebrew, iso loaders) but with the feature of 2.00+ (web browser, codecs) and without the added security updates from sony, so if sum1 upgraded there 2.01+ it wud have these features
just a thought but correct me if its totally absurd. |

Well..you could try but it will not work at the momment. Update files can only be signed by Sony themselves, we can not sign them and thus we can not execute them successfully on our PSP's. Sadly..this is something we all wish for, but it is just very unlikely..almost impossible

i havent done any research into it but i was just readin thru the forums n it just popped into my head, i personally know nothing about coding but cud it be possible to isolate the signiture and copy it and then in effect paste it to a custom upgrader?

To the original topic question:
theoretically it is possible. it would take alot of work though,1st you'd need a great coder (Fanjita and probably Humma Kavula and people to help) to create an update, and then it would need to be signed by sony, or to be hacked to recreate a sony signing or to be hacked so it won't need to be signed. |

yeah its not really a copy and paste deal.. its harder than that... if it was that easy then we would have done it already, but this update mix buisness i would imagine, will brick a few psp's in testinf IF it were to ever be possible(there is no way we will ever get sony's private key... like ever)

![]() More on topic, there's no way that Sony would 'sign' any firmware code presented to them by outsiders. |

Ouch, my eyes hurt, you know, this is a forum, you don't pay for each byte here
![]() As for the idea, it would only work with firmware launchers. Flashing the new "firmware" would require encryption of the modules, and for that we need the private key, and if we had that, we would have homebrew avilable trough the game menu on all firmwares. And no, you can't crack the private key, even with the most powerful computer avilable, it would probably take millions of years, and in the end, it would probably just say "42" :P |

Your idea, or something similar, is proposed on average three times a day here.
![]() We do have a custom firmware released... as of now it can only be run with the MPH Firmware Launcher. It's called 1.5 Media Edition, and it's basically 1.5 with support for AVC video and AAC music. Quote:

Patched? If you want to help someone, at least use correct terms... I believe you mean "encrypted", which is something totally different...
![]() And the rest didn't make much sense either... user mode for flash? You need kernel mode, or an exploited user mode with access to flash0, and that excludes the web-browser and games... Last edited by bepe86; 01-17-2006 at 08:11 PM.. |

[rant]I have one question, don't you guys have any time to actually write normal here in these forums? I have to read each sentance (and you had only one!) at least twice, and even then, I don't always understand.[/rant]
Anyways, here's some homework for both of you: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/encryption. Edit: this one is interesting as well... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public-key_cryptography Last edited by bepe86; 01-17-2006 at 08:23 PM.. |
