Not much is known about the licensing process. PSix really will change the way you use your PSP, plus it is being built upon and worked upon constantly by Qubitz and Fluff. All we have to do is give them their space and be patient.

So basically: We don't know. We do know that you will have to purchase a license (I can never get that spelling right...) for the full version, with future updates and such. We do not know however, if there is going to be a free version with stripped down features, hard to say.

Well seeing as how it states the following:
Quote:
Just what is this worth?
While we have no price set in stone at this time, the full version of psix will most probably be set between $7 and $15 per license, this license covers all future updates and patches, and also gives you access to the development forums where you can take part in discussions with other developers and suggest things which may be added to psix!
I would assume the FULL version will require payment. I would also assume a free version would be available as well. Or it could be more vapor; at this point I don't care.. maybe I'll care when I see a download link..

Yepp, 15 USD or 7 USD for a "license".
Fluff is a shame to the homebrew devs if you ask me.
Homebrew is free, letīs keep it that way.

Fluff:
Unlike a certain software release not too long ago, we are not accepting pre-orders for the full versions of Psix, if you wish to purchase psix, please wait until release.
This way you can try the trial before purchasing the full version, the full version will be available on the same day the trial is available to the public.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Guys...go check out Lakeridgesoftware.com

Chris McKay (PocketPC Developer) charges for his work, and all it is is a PPC skinning engine.

PSix will feature more than your everyday shell, and will expand the PSP's capabilities. I myself do not like the selling idea, but after I look at all the time and effort they put into this program, I must give them a break, they deserve to charge for this.

PS: People can charge for what they want when they want, it is an ever-growing software age..people who work harder than current PSP devs deserve to get paid a little something for it.

If you think this is bad, check out lakeridgesoftware.com Skinners (people who make skins for the Pocket PC) actually charge $$ for their special Suites which fully customize your PPC interface...when all you download is a .zip file with image files in it!

NOTE: I will be tempted to close this thread if discussion gets out of hand.

PSix will offer a trial version, so don't complain about it not being free

I say if it is what they say it is, then it's worth 15 bucks at least. If people are spending hours on this and plan on letting other people use it as well, well then those people should give fluff and his crew some reparations for the time they invested in this.

I will pay to get this, ITs what ive been anticipating since its announcement was made months ago. Fluff can charge if he wants, and to be frank, He damn well deserves to do so. This program won't be just like any other homebrew app. It will completely open the doors to homebrew in general, if I'm not mistaken. Frozen Ipaq, has Fluff given information anywhere as to whether or not this program will overwrith $ony's Shell in the flash? OR is it now just an eboot?

It is just an eboot file. Qubitz and Fluff hope to have it "replace" the XMB in a way that you will never have to exit out of PSix, no reason at least

but is it worth it then? unless it can be able to allow kernel on 2.0, and work on all versions 2.x, it will simply launch what can already be done. I personally like the idea of a whole new firmware.

I guess whether or not PSIX will be free is ENTIRELY up to Fluff to decide. Others like me who has never contribute or bother to or even know how to piece a line of code together have no right to make the call or calling Fluff a "shame of homebrew devs..." etc.

Naturally we all hope everything would be free for homebrew but as they say "you get what you pay for" and maybe that's why a high quality homebrew program is hard to come by - since they're, free.

Of course, you're always entitled the right to decide NOT to pay or buy it.

We all hope for new firmware, that's obvious.

Psix will offer a differnt way to launch your homebrew and add various features to improve your PSP experience. PSix will offer a graphical change from the ordinary PSP XMB and will get you out of your old shell, and into this new shiny one

Basically: Right now, 2.0+ running is not likely considering the features it will have. It will (hopefully) offer a WiFi Radio, sharing client (easy way to obtain new PSP homebrew games from a friend over a network without downloading on your PC first...maybe it will be me who shall host all the new PSP files for all to directly download on their PSP, let us see how this turns out ) and much more.

AzureBlack: Itīs just fancy graphics. Like you just wrote all the **** Fluff claims that PSIX can do is things that other guys already have coded. Fluff just make a nice little package and is trying to sell out homebrew.

Good point. To me, it's a non-issue. If it's worth it, than it's worth it; if not, than the developer will be made aware when no one makes a purchase. That is, of course, how a free market society operates.

No...Qubitz (I belive) is coding all of these additionally features by hand. I am aware that he has completely coded for the MP3 player current shown in the screenshots, that I know of, as well as the whole shell!

If you do not want to purchase this then do not, just use the free version!!! Just like QJ.net Premium Membership, if you don't like it..don't buy it

True, but most of these things are available now. Im not dissing it, Im all for it, but will it allow me to run games that need 2.0+? thats my biggest concern. I feel that if Fluff was to still create a firmware instead of another app, almost EVERYONE would convert to his. all of Sony fetures, plus homebrew, file sharing, and more as it gets updated. Mind you, im sure the OS will be gorgeous, but its somuch easier on 1.5 to simply go to GAME and run what you wish.

Some of you people don't use your heads. The 'typical' PSP homebrew doesn't take as long as PSIX does, nor does it unleash the amount of things you can do with your PSP. PSIX is pretty much all the good homebrew in one dashboard. The only thing I'm anticipating now is that dashboard launcher thing that lets you load a different EBOOT file with the WiFi switch. I would have PSIX loading pretty much every time though... :icon_smil

Also, keep in mind that $15 is NOT that much money. Minimum wage is about $5.25. Work 3 hours, and get PSIX... it will definitely be worth it. Take note that I am not affiliated with the PSIX team in any way... I'm just a fanboy!

Good point, but at the current time there is nothing that Qubitz or Fluff can do to have it run on 2.0 with all the good PSix features. They can't make a custom firmware..no one can besides Sony, and if a 2.0 loader is needed..just get Choice

True, but as I believe, when Fluff was originally working on thisproject, wasnt he making progress on making an entire new firmware? From what I heard he was doing great on replacing $ony's.

Another question, how many features would the free version have?? I mean all I want is Eboot loading so that I could run SmashGPSP on 2.00

You misunderstood what FrozenIpaq said. This will doubtfully run correctly on 2.0

Actually it could come down to knowing how to use the config file.

Well, from all my knowledge of Psix, this was never true and I have asked Fluff myself, this will be a shell, not a replacement. Fluff has done various "hacks" the the Sony XMB, but other than that, no custom firmware/XMB

Ah. misinformation at its best then. I look forward to its release on Feb 1st. My last 2 questions were these: will Fluff be able to modify the home button to go to PSIX? and by a new way of launching Eboots, do you mean that you can just launch them normally from the shell? or will there be someway that Fluff allowed the running of 1.0 homebrew? That would certainly be a great thing indeed.

If he can make the shell then i am positive that he will be able to do that. the whole home to shell thing... i mean we have it already with psp-oss and artilery.

Edit:\ oops i misunderstood but yeah im sure he could.
