here is the link http://www.freewebs.com/pspcrack/ it is about the 5th update down.... check it out see if there is anything useable by it... also i have a question... what has ever happened with the whole discussion on the "fake update" thread about that firmware that was accessable only at a certain time of the day and included a bunch of things not even 2.6 had... if that has any new things about it, please let me know.

A little off-topic here, but I have been hearing a lot about this "Fake Updater". I take it it's used with the MPH Firmware Launcher? I'll go do some searching while someone posts.

the "fake updater" bricked your psp if you ran it, it was availible on the pspupdate service for a little bit,

a long time ago i beta tested someone who successfully ran the custom firmware useing mph's loader,

it was a FALSE rumor that it had special utilities,

it just had a VERY NICE user interface compared to that of the regular one, all the sounds and whatnot that came from the xmb were differnet and alot of the icons were different as well,

im sure you could find a psar dump of the firmware somewhere and try to run it again now that mph's loader is more advanced.

Hey, I have that I think. Its FW 1.5 media edition, it needs the mph firmware loader. It has files to flash onto your 0 and 1. Im too ignorant to operate it! But I have it none the less.

Umm... you might want to clarify. Fake Updater is a program (that will NOT brick your PSP) that allows you to extract the PSP firmware updates to folders that are ready to use with the MPH firmware loader.

Yeah, I just read that on some other posts. Im pretty sure I have what he's talking about, its a custom 1.5 FW from Game Shark. It has video and audio codecs.

Here's what the site says....

First Custom Firmware!!!

Well, it has begun, the new age of custom firmwares. Gameshark has made the first actual custom firmware.
This Firmware includes:
1.All 1.5 Homebrew Functionality
2.All 2.00 MEDIA FUNCTIONALITY(so, sorry, but no, you cant play 2.00 games and have homebrew yet, only the video codecs and music codecs are now working on a 1.5 FW)

Gameshark said his next goal is to try to get the 2.00 UMD games working, i hope he does, if he does, he will be one of the living Gods of PSP Hacking.
BTW!!!!!: This Custom FW is run using MPH's great FW Loader. DO NOT TRY TO UPGRADE USING THE 2 FILES IN THE CUSTOM FW .ZIP. THAT IS UNLESS YOU WANT YOURSELF A VERY NICE BLACK LCD DOORMAT!!!!

Download the Custom Firmware HERE
Download The Latest MPH Firmware Loader HERE

its old
its fake
it doesnt do anything.

fake updater is a program that "runs" an update and extracts all the files for you in their directories on your mem card. now you can have a dump of whatever firmware you want without bothering ppl on here on how to do it.

as for custom firmware...
stick with your 2.50 with the mpegbase.prx from 2.00.

This isn't fake, you can actually use the 2.0 media functions and 1.5 style homebrew. But the whole thing is unnecessary since why would you want to emulate a fw which can run apps you can run without emulate it? You can just stick to the original 1.5 and emulate 2.5 instead...

have you personally tried it? doubtful.
it doesnt do ANYTHING.
all he did was take some prx's from 2.00 and put them in the 1.5 firmware.
what does that do? nothing.
what happens when you try to play an avc movie? the same thing on a 1.5. "this video is in an unsupported format."
also the music section freezes.
just because you mix up some prx's doesnt mean that magically the system will figure out what youve changed and magically add refrences for the new prx's.

now using the 2.00 mpegbase.prx in a 2.50 dump works because both systems already have refrences for avc. so since the the 2.00 is better at avc than the 2.50 system on mph fw loader, you can switch out the mpegbase.prx files with each other and it will actually play media.

so... like i said

Except they don't work. All it does is crash or say the formats are unsupported. It isn't fake, true, but it's certainly worthless.

Isnt that the custom firmware with the 2.00 media prxs loaded into them? So it can run all the media capabilites (ie. Movies, Music, Pictures) But thats it i think. It was called 1.50 Media center Edition :-) never tested it but i thought it sounded nice.
