I've had an idea, we should make a thread for "oldschool projects" in the oftopic section of these forums and post our old stuff that never got finnished and see if people want to playwith/continue them

to clarify though, i had worked with bizzy_d on Anexa (which we also released), at that point sakura was already dead, because when they ditch winamp 3 for winamp 5, and neversuns dj plugins and dupe window system stopped working entirely, she decided to just not bother, and i for one agreed with her decision.
After completing anexa, bizzy_d requested permission to work on sakura, since i didn't really care for it at the time, i said sure, and he created and rather quietly released sakura lite, which even i admit, was pretty crap, i just want you to know that i had no hand in the creation of sakura lite, it was entirely bizzy_d's work and choice, all did was provide the images and scraps of scripting that still worked in 5, over to him since i wasnt planning on working on it further.
I remember you passing it off, but I assumed you held creative control of the release. Yes, I was disappointed. But that definitely doesn't make it an apples to apples comparison.

    Zitat Zitat von Fluff
I can see how it may be similar to psix, however psix has been released (however limited) by me and qubitz, and we are actively working on improving it, i can assure you with no doubt at all, we will not stop until psix is complete and stable (and free to the general public).
I'm very glad to hear that you will be seeing this one to completion. I know the possible threat to this one is something with the 1.5 Firmware becoming obsolete, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon. I'll look to use this in the future - especially if you build in the PMP.

    Zitat Zitat von Fluff
Just for old times sake, im sure you remember the past dramas, would you beleive it if i told you me and adil actually get along now?
Not possible. Don't tell him I said so, but after that opening animation with BOOM coming out of the box, I thought it was absolute trash and should have come with an animation to put it back in the box and send it back to Nullsoft.

His ego has calmed down a bit now, you can actually talk to him for a while without him bragging/****talking, it's incredible i swear :)

as for the boom animation, yes, i never did like the fact that it increased the skin size by 4mb for something that only plays when you first open the player, and back in those days i was still on dialup (oh dear!)

Still though, i prefer to be remembered for my wa2 skins like fe2o3 and tih2o6 equilibrium ;)

about the same time when we get the net tab up and running :) no timeframe on that, though its improving, for the most part sceNet support is pretty sketchy

no worries. it will be a great day when we have wifi apps included into the shell.
not sure what sceNet is, anywhere i can do some further reading?

good to hear the inclusion of pmp as the video player though. i would rather it be pmp than a newly built video player *if it aint broke, dont fix it.*

also, is there a way to keep my backgrounds from going back to the default?

keep up the good work. honestly, you can keep my $10 to yourself lol.
im proud to say i support capitalism.

it will most likely be an inclusion of PMP (so basically the same as PMP but within psix)
and before people snap their spines in a rush to flame that, we talked to johnny and jir weeks ago and came to an agreement of how we could do that without breaking any GPL's so settle down
Good luck with PMP, I'm guessing you're going to have a lot of problems performance-wise, even malloc's tiny overlays seemed to affect it at one time. you could have it separated from the shell, and launch it whenever a .pmp is selected. But I guess you know what you're doing.

-Btw, PSS-OSS guys are also talking to jonny about integrating PMP.

I was wondering if you're going to keep the Windows-like cursor system, I personally don't think you need it, unless you actually had a mouse, or in the case of an internet browser. The PSP's analog stick is not that precise. I do like the tab system, very neat.

Windows interface is made considering the pros/cons of a PC, making full use of a PC's peripherials (keyboard/mouse), thats why that type of interface sucks on other plattforms.

Take a look at XBOX Media Center, that is an awesome interface: simple, well thought out, great use of the XBOX's input system (Controller). You should take a good look at the PSP, you'll see that the analog is not one of its strenghts.

I hope you don't take me wrong, I'm not here to flame anyone, I just wanted to give my feedback about your app :)

no worries theyre all good points that you bring up, as it stands i mean obviously there are things about pmp that limit what we can do with it, so we will do our best on that front and try to make it as seamless as possible, hopefully the psp-oss guys get it working on their shell too, it'd be nice if we can have 3 really nice shells up and running, psp-oss, mbshell, and eventually psix (4 when psp-osx comes out), im all for user choice :)
the cursor thing isn't a big issue, as you can probably tell from psix's design, we opted for a tab based rather then a taskbar and start menu style, to make the shell a truly psp-based experience, the cursor is there purly for choice, the more work progresses on the shell you will eventually be able to disable the cursor and control psix entirely via dpad if needed (you will also be able to control it via dpad when the cursor is enabled), again this isnt something thats in there right now, but in the 8 months time we've had to work on this, we've thought things like this over for quite some time.
psix is, dispite that 8 months work, still code-wise a young shell and the work being done on it is progressing quite fast, (obviously these past 2 days we havent done much more work on it while we handled the launch),but hopefully by this weekend we'll be able to settle down and get stuck into continuing its development.

I would like to add (not related to you Argandona, dont worry)
I'm generally a nice, understanding and honest person when it comes to what im doing, i have been wrong a few times, and in some cases planned for things to happen which fell through, but i'm mature about things, i can take criticism when the criticism is maturly put across, and when any accusations put forward, are backed up via fact rather than assumptions, which is why, for the most part, even when iball grills me over something, i still respect the guy, and when people tell me that they are very dissapointed with psix and go into why that may be, i respect that opinion and look to learn from the knowledge given to me.

When we originally announced psix's launch "psix lite" was going to be limited and never updated, and pro was actually going to be $15, i listened to the opinions put forward by users here, no matter how crass, and decided together with qubitz that we would update the free version with new features, when the ones made in the beta become satisfyingly stable.
When users came to me posing questions about the inclusion of GPL code and actually gave evidence to support their comments, i looked into it and indeed found them to be correct, and switly contact the appropriate people to make ammends and work out a comprimise with the authors so both parties would be happy, i admit the handling and naming system during psix's launch was badly planned and in hindsight it may have been better to delay a little longer so that the initial release was more useful, however i really wanted to stick to my promise of a feb 1st launch, no matter how badly i was flamed for the applications quality.
So all i ask is that if you have something nice to say, thankyou, if you have something negative to say, so long as you say it constructively, thankyou also, if you feel something has been handled poorly, either pm me requesting information, or put the question across in a calm manner, rather than "omg your so lame stealing xxx's code", which is the kind of thing i was receiving earlier, entire pages after i had aknowledged the issue and saught to resolve it with the authors (which has been done, which Shazz can verify)

All in all, people please keep comments constructive and well mannered.
    Thankyou.

Rather than quoting the post above, here is a link to it:
    Psix [Released]

It's just a few posts up. This is why I support PSIX, and will continue to do so financially. You and qubitz deserve the utmost respect for what you've do so far. Just as any developer deserves that same respect. Posts like the one above are also why you (read PSIX) will have me there to back you whenever possible. Bravo.

You sure they're not working as of now? I ordered PRO and got the email with the instructions within 2-5minutes lol I doubt y'all answered manually that fast. So you might want to check because i think the automated ordering is already working.

BTW - let me say that PRO is so much better than Lite. Yes, the features PRO has other shells have for free but that audio player really has my hopes up LOL! In a way it seems that i paid $10 for a "decent" audio player but i have faith in y'all it'll continue to grow, as well as the other media capabilities of Psix. Also, let me add that the forums over there at Psix are another reason i'm glad i paid $10 (in addition of getting up-to-the-minute-news about anything Psix related, including latest builds), i already see that the support from all the Mods and Beta Testers is nothing short of great :)

Thanks for a cool app and enjoy that vodka! :) See ya in the forums ;)

I own a never downgraded 2.0 so this is the first shell that actually booted. Pitty I is pretty useless under 2.0 (not flaming here). It would be so nice if it were to be fully functional under 2.0 (at least homebrew loading,mp3, file manager, image viewer and who knows WiFi and PMP when Fanjita's Loader gets further...). I don't know how Fanjita would be willing to help you (or any other shell development) in the ways of 2.+ support but then it would be perfect...

I'd be really, REALLY happy if hte first update you'd release were to be 2.0 support for the features in lite (and maybe overcome those stability issues on the mp3 size).

There are really many users stuck with 2.+ (and I'm lucky I can always downgrade even though I don't intend to) and I guess this would get all mighty popular (but I think that won't happen very shortly and it concernes more coders than your team...).

Just as a curiosity, will PSIX have any PSPRadio style feature (this one is really popular even around 2.0 users).

Hope 2.0 will get its chance soon ;)

Audio playback on earlier versions worked fine under 2.00, it was only when we moved libmad into it's own module did audio stop working under 2.00, however it has to be in an external module in order to adhere to the rules.

Audio playback on earlier versions worked fine under 2.00, it was only when we moved libmad into it's own module did audio stop working under 2.00, however it has to be in an external module in order to adhere to the rules.
so do you possibly forsee a possibility of it working for 2.0? if used in conjunction with fanjitas eboot loader, it should launch most homebrew. is there anything in particular restricting you currently?

    Cool

~Fluff I am happy to see that with your great PR a lot more people are accepting that Psix is a good app and I applaud your dedication to clearing the air about the issues that had people irate. You prove that this is a professional group that is committed to this project. I mean if it where me I would run in a corner and hide after getting iball on my ass…lol…but you stood your grounds and won people over and most importantly LISTENED AND TOOK ACTION, With that kind of attitude you should do OK  …keep up the good work and I will continue my support…I guess my initial love for the app steamed from me also being a designer and it looks LOVELY added to that my research pulled up good reports of you and your team so I believed that you where the real thing…anyway, I have a request…I am still unable to access the PRO section because of my country not being listed in paypal…after you get the automated system up how soon after you think you would give alternative payment methods?

    Question to Fluff:

How many people were invloved in this project, besides you and Quibitz? Or was it just you two alone?

So im assuming Quibitz and AyAnAm1 were the coders while you were the GUI artist? (Im starting to feel like a reporter...again.)

Yes, main artist and the one that sits there telling qubitz where everything does, and how it should handle/operate, im sure it annouys the hell out of him sometimes because im a perfectionist, the battery icon changed 3 times in 1 week at one point (the one were using now is nice and accurate :))
i can code, just not to the standard we need for the project, so i tend to just use my limited knowledge to assist in finding solutions and developing graphics and animations with the coding in mind (so i can cut corners to save mem/cycles)
All in all i feel how we have it now, works great, theres no confusion or 'ego' envolved, i work on what is needed, and make changes/additions based on their needs, and they work towards the specifications i lay out in my detailed explanations and parameters (on average for something simple as a tab, i will provide a 60+ line document explaning the positions, actions, effects and purposes of everything on their, and thankfully up to this point, that method has proved to work well, because i dont just throw an unrefined image at him and say "make it cool" :)

nice way of doing things. I recently had a project fail because of problems in between Virtue, C5cha7 and myself. Luckily its back on track and without Virtue (that sounds odd.) Not to beat a dead horse, but any date around which I can hope for a skinning system?

Think there is gonna be anyway to do custom GUIs? I love yours, and the graphics are great, but its always better if its more your own.

there will be ways to eventually, i suppose what i could do is release the current theme's image files and let people play with it, then have the skin compiled for them, but the problem is, if we make any changes to the theme, the older skins wouldnt work :/
