Default Snes9xTYL 0.3 for 1.5 discussion thread

Mods - there is a thread in eLoader and 2.01+ Homebrew Discussion, but I want this one dedicated to 1.5 users.
--------------------------------------

My first test was .3me Chrono Trigger battle (set to "wait state", first battle in forrest with 3 bugs) :
0 skip - ~42/42 frames (sound is quite slow)
1 skip - ~50/25 (sound is near perfect)
auto skip - ~60/10 (perfect sound)

This is with sound emulation on the ME at 44K. Hacks were set to default.

I went back and did this with .2c (same as above) :
0 skip - ~39/39 frames (sound is quite slow)
1 skip - ~48/24 (sound is "OK")
auto skip - ~60/6 (perfect sound)

This is with sound emulation at 44K. Hacks were set to default.

Anybody else doing testing? When playing in general, it is a little better, but not the increase I was hoping for considering sound processing should be done by the media engine...am I wrong? Maybe there are other settings I should be playing with.

Discuss, I know MANY of you have been waiting for this release!!!! Hopefully the boys quickly release revisions for problems other people are having. Too bad for those 2.0 users, 'eh?

-Alex

From doing some reading on yoyofr's fourms, turining on fast mode 7 in the hacks menu may help keep the speed up.

Fast Mode 7 ON = no difference with my particular test.

With or without it, there is definitly a speed increase. Supaer Mario RPG and Yoshi's Island are fully playable at frameskip 2, but the sound is still slow, but the graphics are smooth.

I have tested Chrono Trigger with this new version and it's awesome (:. In 0.2c when you battled the sound/music tended to get slow but now it doesn't (:. Donkey Kong Country I and II runs also much better now.

No doubt it's better, but I'm hoping that all sound emulation can be handled by the ME. I don't know much about it, but I assume it's a seperate processor? Seeing as the thing runs perfect w/o sound, you'd think offloading sound processing to this proc would make for near perfect emulation (not including FX stuff).

If I've made a wrong statement, please correct!

Sorry if I shouldn't post this here. I'm having problems with this emulator. When I go into the app, I get a error saying : "Error when reading memory stick, please check it for corruption" . Still when the app has started, I can goto where my roms are and select one, and when I do the app freezes up and my psp goes off. I have formatted the memory stick, and redownloaded this app , but I still get the error. Do you have any suggestions about what I should do?

You are correct that the ME is another processor. The reason you don't see much of a jump is that only the sound mixing is done on the ME, not all the sound processing. All the sound processing won't be done entirely on the ME because of scync issues (at least not yet).

@qazwsx: What FW are you trying this on?

EDIT: also try psp acc+appr. software to see if that speeds things up

I've heard plenty good about this application, but I'm not sure I want to upgrade right now, seeing as how the old version works perfectly fine for me. Although, I do turn off the music to attain greater speed, but I also hate old school SNES music.

I'm on 1.5 , I have had this emulator working for a while before, but for some reason now i've updated the program, it doesn't want to work, even when I try the older version again

I was thinking about syncing when I wrote that, but I assumed minimal processing would go toward it. I'm sure over time it will get better!!!

kernel mode has access to the (seperate) media processor, user mode does not.

1.0/1.5 = kernel mode
2.0+ = user mode

My test of Chrono Trigger does not show a slow down, but maybe in certain situations?

Just install both, leonheart_a. Place your ROMs in /PSP/GAMES/ROMs or something so both proggies can access it easier. Play a game you are familiar with and pick the one that works best for you.

F-Zero runs slightly better, but it's not fully playable, sadly.

Im running into some major sound issues for super mario all-stars + world. And a few games seems to run a bit slower.

The "me" version.

I have the same problem with loading my old saves. I get this error:" Savedate is not a freeze data" (or something very similar  ).

Hopefully you can help me.

And btw. I tried Yoshis Island and I was impressed of the great performanceboost, but then I just fell through the "floor". The textures seem to be a little buggy.

It says it right when you start up that it doesn't support sleep if you use the ME edition.

Anyone else done any benchmarks with favorite games?
