has anyone tried getting a 1.5 to 2.0 firmware and opening it in a hex editior to change its version past 2.6 ?? so it thinks is updating to 2.7 when real;y its a 1.5 or are their checksums and such in the way??

This has been said SOOO many times when you change anything inside an update eboot it becomes currupt and doesnt run.

And Please Search there is a lot of threads on this.

If it were that easy, it would have been done a long time ago!
but as psp_bling said, it's best to search the forums before posting

You can not do it because it is encrypted. As soon as one byte is changed, the data instantly becomes unsigned. Unless you have a 1.00 you can not run unsigned code directly, so this is of no use to higher firmwares.
