I REALLY doubt this works.

But I am HIGHLY sure we we have a new entry to the fake downgraders list.

Everyone on PSP3d think it's BS, why do you think any differently? How is this any different than the dozen fake downgraders we see week after week?

Explain... like anyone starting a thread should please. I'll give you a few to elaborate...

And please don't link to the Italian thread again, I'm not going to sign up to an Italian Forum just to read an article I can't even understand. And translators never work real well anyway. Could you at least copy and paste the post into this thread? Thank you.

No, no I wasn't flaming. Trust me if I was flaming you, you would know it.

But I do think this is BS in terms of a downgrader. That's great that he can view the flash0, but that doesn't mean downgrader. (that's not directed towards you, just the concept in general). Oh well.

Hey hey hey! Now read the whole thread. It's really interesting what's going on there.

Apparently the guy claims he can read/write flash0.

He also says that he's not afraid of bricking because he can always access flash0 and just recopy what's needed.

But...isnt the whole deal about writing to flash1 ?

Im a n00b in those terms, nevertheless this is an interesting read, and I've bookmarked it.

I read the whole thread too. The guy, who hasn't even posted there, apparently was able to read the flash0 contents; there's no mention of writing to it. If, and I mean IF, he can write to it then he might be on to something. As of now, he's done a very lengthy procedure to do something which File Assistant has enabled us to do for some time.

No, the whole deal is writting to flash0. Flash0 has all the information for the PSP's content, and what's in the firmware.
Flash1 is only settings, time zones, time, date, custom wallpaper, etc.

Hmm, I use linux and I don't see how he did it without writing his own software, but maybe it works, im going to try it later when i find a linux that fits on a 32 mb stick. I will test it and see if it is actually true.

There is a 1% chance this does work. If it doesnt, we can wait for PSP-Linux, flash PSP linux on there, take all the PSP 1.5 files, and place them there, then delete linux, viola, downgrade.

well you gotta remember that it's not PSP3D saying they might have a downgrader... it's just a post on the forums of PSP3D about another forum that says they might have one... and the person is "supposed" to be a credible programmer

...and no, i dont believe it either, but whatever

Oh my God, you must be kidding me. He says he can access the flash chip through USB. He's lying through his teeth. Just because you're running Linux doesn't mean you can accomplish technologically impossible tasks.

its 100% fake...
even tho he put the distro on his memory stick, all the code is still being run on the pc...
just a lot of bull****...
to actually accomplish something like this, you would have to boot linux ON the psp...and that too native, not using emulation like bochs...

and well about putting linux on the psp, heres a good read
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-412323.html

tho this is on the gentoo linux forums, all this applies to the linux kernel itself because if any distro can work on a console, its gentoo

Probably just another fake downgrader, I don't know why people keep pretending to make downgraders, they'll not get any credit for it.

Just to add my 2 cents....

It appears that these fake downgrader threads in this forum come up because of 2 different reasons.

1) Forum members that want to create a fuss around their name....e.g. trying to be like..." I was the first to introduce the downgrader to this forum"
which is really stupid as there is no credibility which accompanies a post like that.

2) Downgrader hopefuls... Forum members who really want to believe that there is a downgrader so they take advantage of the full homebrew so they would believe anything on the forum. I would reccommend....and this is it really a recommendation that before posting on a downgrader and getting everyone's hopes up that:

1) Check whether the "downgrader" comes with some proof...e.g. a video.
2) Look at the proof and determine whether it is true. Some videos, indeed all of the videos out there for a 2.01 and above downgraders are fake.

Let us try to to limit the "downgrader" posts as much as we can. There are on average 3 NEW locked downgrader threads EVERY day. This is ridiculous. I am sure this thread will be locked too. It is just a matter of time.

This was posted over in the 2.01+ part of the forum and I closed it, to be honest I don't think this works at all, I wish people would stop posting them unless they know for a fact that they work as it creates confusian and people who read the topic titles then think that one exists.

In my opinion they overdid it when they started claiming that it was brick-proof. Considering that the PSP boots from on-board flash, and not from the memory stick, and that when the flash is bricked, the PSP just cannot get past the very first stages of the Initial Program Loader (IPL), then I can't see any way in which Linux on the memory stick can allow you to unbrick a PSP. Even if the flash access is via USB (hmmmm...), then since the PSP can't boot far enough to enter USB mode when bricked, this wouldn't allow you to unbrick it.

It's that sort of over-enthusiastic claim that tends to nobble the credibility of most of the fake downgraders.
