Smile -= [03-2006 1st] Homebrew of the Bi-Weekly! [Poll] =-

Hello everyone and welcome to the 1st QJ.net PSP Homebrew of the Bi-Weekly! Where YOU choose gets to claim the title of being #1 in this poll! How it will be planned is simple. Every 2 weeks, a new 5 count poll will be posted. It may contain older homebrew, it might twist it up with some newer homebrew. In those 2 weeks. YOU choose which is the better homebrew! Each 2 weeks, the winner will be posted on the front page, maybe a comment or so from the Dev who made it. Then when the NEXT 2 week winner comes out, it will replace the old. (Thus in the title, the 1st or 2nd will show, to represent which Bi Weekly we are on) So stay tuned for the 1st batch to choose from and talk about. =)

Poll time!
Your choices this week are going to focus on old school homebrew vs the new ones that EVERYONE would choose. I will try to focus the poll choices in similar apps and style. (No.. I will not do the Fan GTA loaders.. as we all know that would win too much)

This bi week will focus on emulators! The classics! Which one do you think deserves the most credit?

NES - NesterJ (Official or Unoffical, doesnt matter) - http://dl.qj.net/Unofficial-NesterJ-.../192/catid/127

SNES - Snes9x - http://dl.qj.net/Snes9x-TYL-v0.2c-Su.../206/catid/135

Sega - DGen or PSPGenesis - http://dl.qj.net/Dgen-v1.30-Gaming-C.../815/catid/133

Neo Geo CD - New app that just recently came out - http://dl.qj.net/NeoGeo-CDZ-Emulator...5154/catid/126

GBC - Homers RIN version that recently came to the light - http://dl.qj.net/Homers-RIN-v3.2-Gam...4888/catid/121

Choose and discuss! See which old school classic wins the bi weekly spotlight! Next 2 weeks will focus more on current apps that came out. =) Just paying respects this round to the retros. =D

Also if you have ideas on these new polls and homebrew of the weeks/months, post about it. Fairly new so since this is something to help you all out and focus some news coverage on the apps. Tell me what you will like. =)

The winners will have their dev notified and HOPEFULLY a mini interview can be setup to talk about their app and few other things for a interesting read. =D Otherwise, we may use peoples comments here to put along side the app. =)

[ Mystic QJ.net Spotlight of the Bi-Weekly ]
- Reserved for one lucky homebrew who "I" like alot and Ill tell you why soon! Stay tuned for this weeks Mystic Spotlight review! -

This weeks spotlight goes to PSPRadio!
http://dl.qj.net/PSPRadio-v0.38.05b-...2499/catid/189

Nice little app that I tracked as new versions came out. The interesting thing I loved about this app is its ability to stream shoutcast media. Meaning your OWN content. I love setting things up and streaming my own music is a nice thing to do. Just go on the road.. listing at Wifi zones to your own things or other peoples music.

[Guide] How to stream YOUR winamp MP3s to your PSP. is the thread if you wish to know how to stream your own mp3s.

As the program went on, new features came out, better support for media and so on. If you like listening to internet radio, this program is the one for you! It also does support 2.0 firmwares as well. So if you want to give it a quick install, go for it! Its small enough to fit on any memory stick and a pre set playlist lets you try to stream content right out of the install! Raf is also a nice guy who I talked to in his own forums. =) Anyways, Thats my spotlight for this time around. =)

Snes9x natch! But this poll will probably reflect which system people like rather than with emu is the best - we'll see.

Thats true too.. it will become what system they like most.. however.. it depends as well on the EMU.. think of it.. if the EMU couldnt play its system that well. (*CoughGBACough*) people will not use it and play a diff emu that DOES play well. So in a sense.. the EMU itself reflects on what people will choose to play.

The 16-bit era was undoubtly the prime for RPGs. (you can argue that one if you want ^^)

Havent tried out Neo Geo yet, I'll look into it. O.o

I'll go for Homers RIN since it made so many people on 2.01+ happy.

When it came to Dgen vs PSP Genesis.. I go with Genesis. Always played better and controlled better, least when holding a D pad down. But just wouldve been redundant to put both up as seperate.

I havn't tried PSP genesis. DGEN seems to work pretty good for me, it has a nice interface.

My only problem is that I can't get dynamite headdy, or comix zone to work. O.o

Snes emulator still cant get kirby games (dreamland, etc...) runnning over 40fps, with every setting tweaked. Every other game that Ive tried works perfectly so far, good job to the creator(s) of Snes emulator

Bump, lets hear some testomonials on the app you love or that you feel is the best in its "applications class" (Meaning this poll is designed for retroware emu.. which one do you feel is the best app in the catagorey, not so much about the game lineup, but the app itself. All I know is if Sega CD had made it.. I would know to vote for that as that would be quite a task! Same as if GBA had been perfected)

The application itself... well. In terms of games, it definetly goes to SNES, but as for emulation. It's either NesterJ or Homer's RIN. I, personally, will choose NesterJ slightly ahead because Homer's RIN doesnt' seem to save button layout, but that's okay.

So, yeah. NesterJ for me.

Emulation wise you said, what makes NesterJ fit the ball better then others?

I would almost say Snes9x did a great job, save states, importing, speed, frameskip etc. I play normally on a frameskip of 2 and 333 mhz personally for all my games.. and you know how FF6 lags on the wrong emu.. still cant get it perfect enough on my zodiac 2.. even tho it works decent now.

Essentially, the emulation is almost perfect, but so is Homer's RIN. I have yet to try out the Sega emulators, so I am unaware of their performance, and it may just be the fact that both NES and GBC require low hardware to run properly, but I have just found NesterJ so hassle free, which makes it the 'homebrew of the week', (despite it being months old). I probably would've given it to Homer's RIN, 'cept, it doesn't seem to save button layouts on 2.01.

I have yet to find an emulator that runs as well as NeoCDZ by NJ.
What other emulator will load a 20MB rom and play nearly flawlessly??? with a 2.0 FW PSP.

my favs are NeoCDZ, SnesTYL0.3, Homers Rin 3.2.

I'd say NesterJ. I don't play PSPGenesis much, or RIN, and the only reason I have SNES is for MegaMan X.

i would have to say in terms of an application has to be Homer's Rin CLOSELY followed by neogeo cd, these are by far the best 2 working emulators around in terms of stability and functionality. both run at very high fps, with neogeo surpassing the actually neogeo cd console itself. Homer's Rin is just best for stability, yes it doesn't save button config but that takes like 2 seconds to set up at the start.

Snes9X gets m vote. Its stable and fast. Haven't had a problem with any of my Roms speed-wise. My only complaint is the battery life when overclocking to play most games.

Homers RIN. Homer seems like the only Dev whos updating all the time and actually posts atively on the BB (for a emulator dev that is)

lol, it says bi-monthly on the main page

I think neogeocd rocked (i don't know which one you put in there though). Snes is good, but i use TYL, so i can't really speak much for 9x. Might have to try homer and genisis out though.

Great idea for the whold bi-weekly thing.

Homers RIN for the simple fact he did so much in so little time he deserves all my praise I love the SNES emu more than the others cause i mean come on its SNES but people are picking there fav emu system there rather than which has come along the best.

Right now all I play is PLynx v0.9 Patch 1 (the original 0.9 has both option 1 and option 2 on the same button). I voted for SNES9x because I played TYL's _me version before that. When 0.4 is released I'll have another go at that
