Theres a way to do it on all gameboy type's.

What you do is like I'll take the starter pokemon for the example...

Go to the lab and save it in there there somewhere then pick a pokemon you want to duplicate , then , go out into the game until you can catch any wild poemon so that your are able to deposit the pokemon you want to duplicate (Tododile or something ) .
After it's been deposited go to save game and when it's saving turn it off just as the text has reaached the end of the sentance , and when you load up the game you will be at the pokemon lab ready to pick another poekom to duplicate ( thats if you want all 3 starters ) and when you look in the PC your other starter will be waiting for you there.

I admit it sounds abit dodgey to turn it off while it's saving so don't do it if you realy don't want to but I have before not sure if I should of though.

Or you could go with soemthing easier like using gameshardk codes. =/ Lol.
