I had originaly posted this in a Flashmod thread, but realise that the info I am
about to release does not require the Flashmod authors to support it.
This firmware hack can be applied with PSPset09 since it is a modification to the
opening_plugin.rco file that PSPset overwrites when you use the 'Change Bootsound' option.
The opening_plugin.rco file also contains the boot sound
which can be modified with other software.
I have applied this modification to flash0 myself, and tested it to work with a 1.50 PSP.
No firmware mod would be complete without a video (5Mb) :
As you can see, the mod removes the "Sony Computer Entertainment"
text out of the boot screen, and the wave effect on the boot screen that
remains even after removing it with Flashmod resulting in a clean transition
to the XMB menu.
Since it could be argued that simply uploading the modded .rco file could be
a breach of copyright, even though other programs have these files included
with them. I am wondering how best to deliver these mods to the public,
as other firmware mods I have made (and perhaps future fw mods) have some functional value.
The safest but hardest way would be to simply offer a description of each
byte to edit with a hex editor...
