Good day PPl
This new thing about Homebrew and Emulators on PSP has grown since day one, not to mention when the news about the 1.50 finally got hacked, in fact; it was my kid that told me it could be done. When I took my PSP to my workplace office,Most of my friends were amazed at how many games I was able to play. since that day, I have gone with 17 of my friends to buy PSP's, not only the machine, they got a bigger memmory card, some games and some movies. Does Sony realize how many machines they are selling because of this hack? I mean, non of my friends wouldn't got a PSP if they couldn't play the games I was playing. One of my friends that is a lawyer told me that even thou this is a good busnies for Sony thay have to "TRY" stop it because possible suits by third party companys. Example: Big company Name Vs. Sony. What is your take on this? ATT: Blindmark |

I'm sure Sony is aware, however they must not be happy. Sony loses money when they sell a PSP, because it costs more to manufacture than it's selling price (it it just breaks even, not enough for profit, I forget). They make money from the games, not from the guy who goes and buy's a PSP and a memory card to mostly play homebrew. So you can bet they'll be doing everything they can to stop homebrew!
Definatelly not good business. |

doing the internet browser will not encourage poeple to buy games. All they want it for poeple to buy their games, just take a step back and look at it from their point of view.

Yeah,
Your right, thats the reason. Are you kidding me? The UMD launchers were released last week. Last time I checked the 1.52 has been around for 2 months. On top of that, if Sony really wanted to support the homebrew scene, they would have done a signing service that will allow homebrew apps to be signed and released. This way it eliminates piracy, and allows homebrew to grow. This was done on the Zodiac, and worked wonders. Sony does not want any homebrew to be done, the pirate thing is just the icing on the cake. |

don't forget that while emulators themselves may be legal, roms almost certainly are not.
unless you're talking about stuff like psp snake etc..., in that case sony could give them the developer suite, maybe press some umds of their software, ship them as maybe ... UMD games?

I understand that roms are ileagal but at some point should they be a preservation project, some of these systems are non existant any more and so are the game , sure u can get a used system at EB or off e-bay but not all of them( i havent seen any neogeos or turbo 16 on the store shelves) and a lot of these games are hard to find. also note: getting them this way no game companys are making any money at this point any way.
Some companys release packs of them on the new systems but threre are still many that are unacounted for. And don't half of thses older game, wouldent theur licence have expired by now. I like the homebrew idea but wish some one would make it ahhh( safe to use) supported by some company. ok sorry enough rambling. |

when I do buy, I usually buy used so devs and sony don't get much out of me anyways.

i'm not sure hwo the used market works, but this whole thing was taken care of when Video Rental stores started appearing, and then they started selling previously viewed movies...
i think Blockbuster was responsible for making it legal and why we have the whole used vhs, dvd, video games system outside of pawn shops and flea markets/garage sales. basically with those your selling the game and your rights to use that property, thing of it like selling your car... the new owners aren't going to just let you still use it because you sold it and if you did take it, you'd be arrested... |

I have to imagine that companies would be more willing to develop a game for a system with a large amount of units sold. Also the creator of the topic said how his friends got it mostly for the homebrew. When you buy a system you are pretty much definately going to buy some of the games/movies released especially when you are out the checkout counter you will get entertained by a game that catches your eye and you will purchase at least one game. Unless of course you are a dedicated homebrew/iso loader/emulator player/ |

I own a psp and 3 umd games($120). Thats a good target for the average psp owner for the first 6 months of owning one. Sony's PSP launch titles were so good they really didnt need horeds of games spewing out.
Emu's and roms? There's no money lost or made buy using them. GBA on the other hand is another story. Doesnt hurt sony but it does someone else. I hate the fact that games can be pirated but so can pS2, Xbox, GBA. DS. the problem wont be as wide spread since you'd need a $100 memstick or more. Its nice to hear you sold 17 psp on your own, sony should have some kinda referral reward for stuff like that. I've sold one so far and possibly another to a friend after showing him Mega Man2 his favorite game .
