Default Hide corrupted icon for DOOM/QUAKE

note: I posted this in a thread before but noone noticed it.

I cant believe people haven't thought of this already. Games like DOOM and QUAKE require the files they look for to be in a specific folder, meaning you can't hide the corrupted icon, right? Well, actually, a simple hex edit can allow to to change the directory that the game looks for the map files in.

For example, in DOOM, i opened the eboot up in Hex Workshop and did a simple search and replace that changed GAME/DOOM-PSP to MAPS/DOOM-PSP. Then, i simply put the DOOM1.WAD in PSP/MAPS/DOOM-PSP, and the eboots in their respective folders. It works and looks great.

If anyone wants I can upload the eboot as an example.

alrite i am going to post my eboots for this example.

From the readme:
---------------------------------------
This is a hex-edited DOOM so that there are NO corrupt file icons.

It reads the WAD files from ms0:/PSP/MAPS/DOOM-PSP instead of ms0:/PSP/GAME/DOOM-PSP

Simply unzip this to the root of your memory card.

Put all of your custom WAD files in PSP/MAPS/DOOM-PSP folder. (none are included here)
---------------------------------------

Make sure you transfer any custom WAD files to that directory before removing your origional DOOM game from the memory stick

EDIT: Deleted. Never mind, this doesn't work right. (Thanks Psycho)

I must've gotten lucky the first time I tested the notepad method. The other times it didn't work.

Did you actually try this? It's probably a BAD idea to use Notepad since that will damage all the binary data and make the game unplayable...

A slightly better solution tho:

Instead of replacing GAME with MAPS, just replace DOOM-PSP with DOOMM1~1, and rename your '%' directory to DOOMM1~1% and your other directory to DOOMM 1 (that is with at least 26 spaces between DOOMM and the number 1), and then you don't have to create a new MAPS directory anywhere...

Works great on DOOM-PSP .02 CPA1 (that's what I'm using)

EASIER WAY to hide corrupted data and it's not that hard ie....

Snes9x%
is the root folder

Snes9x ____1
Saved folder and leave 5 space between snes9x and then just put a 1 and then add the 1. (to all those noobs out there that means dont add underscores.....

POOF NO MORE CORRUPTED DATA

Yea that works great, but only for games that don't care what the directory is. Doom REQUIRES the directory to be a certain name, rendering that method useless.

And Psycho, you are right, that would make things a bit easier that spacing everything out across 3 directories.
