I'm in quite the pickle. I have a version 1.5 psp, a nice big ms, and all the emu's/games I want on it. Just recently, my left trigger magically stopped working. This happened in the middle of an online game of twisted metal (While I was layin on my bed; there was no abuse involved). Now it acts as though it is constantly being pressed. This doen't really present too much of a problem right now ecept for anything haveing to do with weapons in tm and haveing to jump in coded arms... I think I'm really going to miss that button when gta and socom come out, though... Anywho, I only have the 1 year warantee from sony. I called and the woman seemed happy to replace my psp. "Send it in! We'll replace it right away!" she said. Only problem being that I'm sure that a new psp directly from sony will come with v1.52 or something worse... Homebrew is very important to me, and I really don't want to lose that feature. I have a couple of options. I could keep my old psp and pretend there is no such thing as a left trigger or send it in for a new one, sacrificeing my homebrew abilities. I also have a feeling that the longer I wait, the better the chance that sony will make an even worse firmware update... Is anyone close to running homebrew on 1.51/1.52? I heard something about someone working with a hacked jpeg or somthing... I really don't know what to do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

this is pretty much your only guaranteed choice, other than taking it back to the store you originally bought it from of course. |

The old "buy a new one" trick wont work in this situation (not saying that its a bad idea in general).
When you buy a PSP, there is a unique serial number on the box which they scan and put on your receipt. That same serial is located on your PSP. So if you try to take the broken one back its box, they'll notice that the serial on the box is not the same; and if you try to take the broken one back in the new box, they'll notice that the serial on the PSP doesnt match the one on the box. |

I dunno if the left trigger not working is something to do with the firmware or to do with hardware. If it is to do with the firmware upgrading it would fix it. But then it would be upgraded and you would be better off getting it replaced. But if you perhaps waited until a firmware downgrader arrives then that would fix it if it is a firmware based problem.
If its a hardware based problem then you could try opening up the PSP and fiddling around a bit around the button but that would be risky... |

Actually, if you read the news about TeamXecutor downgrade again, you'll realize that you won't even need it anymore. It seems that there's a way to patch the firmware directly to run unsigned code. So we won't need to find exploits anymore and thus it is irrelevant which firmware version you have. Update all you want, just make sure to patch it again after updating and you can run all homebrew even without Kxploit. Can't wait for it...

The BEST solution to this is buy a walmart PSP, take it home. Find your broken PSP including the box and stuff it came with. Take that back to walmart and say when you first opened the L button didnt work. KABOOM. Problem solved.

Perfect, except that they check serial numbers and serial numbers are printed on the receipt.
Plus, it's morally wrong to break something and return it for a new product by saying it came like that. I'm not saying I've never done it, but I am saying I'd never recommend anyone do it. |

I will admit that I did that with a used PS2. My current one finally stopped working completely, so I went to a game store and bought a used PS2, took it home, swapped the part of the PS2 that had the serial number on it, and took back my broken PS2 with the different case back, claiming it stopped working. They gave me credit which I then used to purchase my PSP.
Morally wrong? Yeh...probably. I justified it a million ways, but it was still wrong. Although every time I turn on my PS2, now, I feel very right.
