Spoofing MAC to give psp internet access
I realize this guide may be useless for some people, but I could have used it, so here goes. Maybe some of you work or go to school somewhere that requires you to login with your computer or otherwise to access the internet and local network. What these servers usually must do is assign an IP to be used with something called your MAC address. Every internet network adapter that I know of has one of these to indentify the hardware specifically on a network. Your psp's wireless card is included in this.
DISCLAIMER: **DO NOT USE THIS TO GAIN UNAUTHORIZED ACCESS TO A NETWORK AS THAT WOULD BE ILLEGAL**
fine print: I do not condone the use of this information to be used in any illegal method. Please be certain that you have permission to connect your device to the network from your network administrator. I am not responsible for any actions against you from using this method. Thank you.
What you must do is find out what your devices MAC address is. For a psp, its simple. All you must do is go to the System, System info menu in the main psp XMB and write down the number labeled as your MAC address. If you are using another device such as a PDA, DS, etc., you will have to sign on on your own or a friend's router to check this information through the administration menu for that router. You will usually find this under wireless, security settings on a router, but you should use a router specific manual to find out where you can find the list of connected devices and their corresponding MAC address.
Once you have this written down, you can use a MAC spoofer to temporarily fake the MAC address of your computer to be the same as the device such as the psp that you wish to connect to the internet. I highly recommend SMAC for doing this job because of its simple interface and ease of use although it requires a small fee to register the program. I believe their are many other MAC spoofers out their (like cain and able). Once you are spoofing your mac address (you probably should disable and reenable the adapter to make sure it's active), you can log on to the network. A tip for doing this, it is best to have windows control your wireless settings while spoofing. After you have logged on, remove the MAC spoof and connect with your wireless device. You should now be able to use the internet with your device.
One issue I see with this is using more than one device at the same time with the same account. I hope this helps those who might be in need of such a solution. I would like to hear of anyones experience with this hack.
