PSPectrum v0.22 Update!
Just thought i'd let everyone know that their has been an update the the ZX Spectrum Emulator on the PSP. You'll need to install version v0.2, in which the ZX bios roms *are* included legally, and then install the eboot from the update version over the top. Some research on World Of Spectrum will reveal to you all this interesting background info with regards to Speccy emulation; Quote:
Most games are now distributed legally in TAP or TZX format which are unsupported by PsPectrum, which currently only supports the .SNA or .Z80 snapshot formats. To convert a game downloaded in TAP or TZX format for use in PsPectrum i suggest you load the file into a PC spectrum Emulator (such as Spin or EmuZwin) and re-save the game, once loaded, as a snapshot in .SNA or .Z80 format. Those games which are "multi-load" - i.e ones which access the tape *during* the playing of a game (to load levels etc) are currently not supported by PsPectrum. This is an excellent emulator, which has had a few refinements in the z80 core to improve performance. New Additions in v0.22 are all with regards to speed / compatibility issues. Excellent news!
Now there are three things we need in this emulator: 1: Able to load savestates 2: Able to read TAP/TXZ games 3: Able to adjust the frame rate in games (handy for getting past tricky parts in games) It's nice to take a trip down the memory lane - I hope I'm not the only one who grew up in the 70's and 80's and got into gaming, probably before the majority of the PSPupdates crowd were born? (I got my first ZX Spectrum - 16K - in oh, it must have been in 1983 or 1984 when I was 11 or 12)

Snapshot Saves, TZX and AY-3 sound are all on HexDump's list, but framerate changing isnt... and it could be a long time (if ever) before you see it. I'm not even aware of any pc speccy emulators with this. (some have the option to speed up the processor - good for slow drawing text-adventures)
plus anyway, it's cheating i know Hex talked aout adding Pokes to the emu, but there's definately other things i'd rather see myself...imagine TZX, Ay-3 and wifi..... Gauntlet would be immense!! anyway, if you like the emulator, consider chatting with us on the pspectrum forum!! |
