So it seems the race with Sony - finding new exploits as the Playstation Portable's firmware gets updated - may soon be over for good: The first PSP modchip, Undiluted Platinum, will soon arrive, acting as a flash replacement. According to the manufacturer, it will now be possible to use older or even custom firmwares!

The chip has been designed to fit entirely inside the Playstation Portable. Unsigned homebrew code will run even on the latest PSP systems!

We don't have much more details to offer yet apart from the picture, but more information will arrive next week - so stay tuned for more updates - we're as excited as you are!

Admin Note: Right now this is not 100% confirmed and should be treated as a rumor, although the means in which we were informed of this product leads us to believe that it is indeed legit. We will have more information in the upcoming weeks.

coool :P Its problably real, but I wont ever mod this in my psp myself :P And is this dual boot or just writing a new firmware (1.0-1.5) in the modchip thingy and it will act as flash? I already have 1.5 so not really a big deal.

This looks pretty cool! Hopefully they dont release it untill after Sony's next major firmware upgrade. Otherwise the mod will be blocked with the next firmware(possibly).

Very intriguing...I wonder if it'll allow multiple firmwares? Anywho, I will definitely be getting one since my PSP is on 2.5

guys im not sure if alot of people will do this on there own i no alot will but alot wont (lik me) lol i'd just rather stick with cracking the firmwares software wise even tho we want and soetimes need kernal we can live without it and this would just bring the end to the psp sooner then ever becuzz they wont be able to do anything and if they do some1 with the chip will no not to update and they will have all there iso's lol so yeah....................a lot of money loss for sony maby they will sue?
but w/e its realy cool thats just my opinion

Could be faked, but I guess they wouldnt risk another Hype followed by Flaming Wars, would they?

But I would be interested in the Features of this Chip...

From the Explanation it said it would allow Execution of Unsigned Data on higher FWs... then again it said it would allow u to revert to older FWs...

Im wondering... what now?

Anyway, I got a 1.5... so even if it indeed is fake, I guess I cant complain...

But this Mod would be interesting for my 2.6... :-)

Not going 2 mod my 1.5 and risk loosing it... but my 2.6 might be a good start for this...

Just gonna wait and see whats behind this Platinum Chip... Hope it turns out like the PS2-Chips... I love my Messiah-Chipped-PS2...

Modchips don't "f$!k" up consoles, the users abuse the hell out of them, using cheap media, leaving it on for weeks at a time, etc.

As long as 1.5 can serve me well... Why should I?

But when the first REALLY uncrackable Game appears that my 1.5 wont be able to play... well... then i might be willing in to buy such a chip!

Or - When Sony's REAL Downloadable Games appear and they REALLY dont work on 1.5...

Then I would buy one aswell...

Its a 50/50 that it could be fake, but i hope not!

I would like to mod my psp with FW 2.7 with the chip or in future with a higher FW.

Immagine to have costom FW with the best functions of every FW (like 1.0 for the eboots, 2.0 for the browser, 2.6 for RSS, 2.70 for Flash, 3.0 for the ps1 emu (maybe)

Im not shure, but it looks like that you can choose between the original FW and the Custom (or lower FW on the mod chip) when you start your psp. like the smartxx chip of the xbox.

It says in the article that it would be "acting as a flash replacement. According to the manufacturer, it will now be possible to use older or even custom firmwares!" This most likely that it will either replace your flash completely or give you an option at the boot.

Nope bricked psp's are stuffed, you may as well send them to someone who looks into hardware hacking.
