I agree a lot with the top applications, but there are plenty of good games also worth mentioning that you did not yet.

Squarez is one of them. I have a total of 20+ hours on that game, more than most of my PSP games. Everyone also seems to like Attack of the Mutants

Most of the named games are good, but hopefully we will see the "best" in part 2.

Update: Part 2/Top 5 added. Hope you like!

Sorry FrozenIpaq, Squares didn't get in . I do like that game, but I couldn't put all the great homebrew games in, I had to choose 10!! Trying to narrow them all down is hard, and or course there will have been some that I have forgotten, but they will live to see another feature article!

Fantastic read, that is a brilliant article. Personally some of those would not be in my list, but nonetheless for people new to the scene or for those who want a quick reference of some top apps, that is exactly the list to look at. Please QJ.net more of those kind of columns, they are great to read!

For me the best homebrew is Squarez, with AOTM not too far behind. Emulators aren't much of my cup of tea but if I had to pick one it would be Homers RIN.

For Master Reset, are you referring to hard resets? The only way to fix an issue like that is to do such a reset. Also, did you try pressing all the buttons while the screen is on? Try various things if you haven't already. Pocket PC's are hard to trouble shoot on issues like those.

As far as BOR, what firmware are you on? Do you have the BOR file?

I downloaded the one of the frontpage, and put the two folders in my psp/game folder just like any other homebrew. Then i loaded it up and it gave me this menu to select stuff (looks like a filebrowser) and I went into the BOR Folder and pressed O on Eboot and nothing happened. Well anyway Yes Master Reset=Hard Reset. Thats the one where you push in the button on the bottom of it and the screen flashes and reads Compaq Ipaq Pocket PC 2002 Edition. Well that happens and then it gives me a white screen. I tap the start icon in the top left hand corner and I hear a little beep like i usually do but nothing is on the screen. So I came to the conclusion that its the screen thats busted. So i replaced the screen and it still is givein me problems. Damn you compaq! Next time ill get a dell.

Lol, there's no reason I could forget, I was a beta tester Too bad Socals has updated his PSP as well, and was in an attempt to make Squarez work on more current firmwares (the most recent version back then did not work, and there were several new features/updates that were worth playing). Squarez is the best homebrew game of all. Attack of the Mutants was good, but no where near as polished as Squarez.

I'm glad you liked it! QJ.net are moving towards having more feature articles like this, and after the response they've gotten I'll enjoy writing them!

@ Steverocks:

You should have no problem with anything you've downloaded from the links in that post on the homepage. All download links are the same as they were when the news was originally posted. BOR v1.2 should work fine.

I really apreciate your opinion and the work you have put in this list.

But it's just so..... totally unfair!

You compare homebrew apps with games and with emulators.
That's like comparing eggs 'n' beans.
Wait, I think this sais it better:
That's like comparing poo-poo and chocolate.
Both are brown most of the times, but there definitely IS a difference.

And even IF you compare them, how is it possible that IR Shell and DevHook are not on top of the list?

They are the most innovative, most functionnal and most hard-to-code homebrew things out there.

I'd really like to see an answer to this from the author.

It appears to me, that IR Shell is not in the Top 5 because its not compatible to newer fw versions and you want to cover all your readers
(but IMO that would not be fair, as you compare the quality, not the compability).

PSPumkin, the point of the list was what homebrew would keep you from being bored in the summer. Obviously things like DevHook are great, but would it actually keep you from being bored?

The post was what I thought was best for that purpose, and tbh it's obvious that most people would have different lists because nobody is the same. Anyway, I'm still gald you enjoyed reading it and I hope you will look forward to more original articles in the future.

I think so, because a LOT of games would not work without it.

Yeah, thats true.
But playing homebrew or umd games whilst listening to your own music is definetly a good thing.
iR Shell would have deserved a higher ranking.
But as you stated before, its just my oppinion and of course everyone has a different one.
