Default Big Question, possibly life changing.

With Kernal access now on (hopefully) 2.5 and 2.6. Would GTA still be needed in order to run homebrew when Fanjitas new eLoader comes out? Imagine Homebrew being run on 2.5 and 2.6 without GTA, it would be amazing! Is it possible!?

I dont think there will be another eLoader, I think fanjita will just make an eboot that patches up the flash0 so no GTA is required, and homebrews can be accessed by xmb

Nice! Good deal, I'm very excited about this (as with millions of other people.) I have a couple questions though.

I know alot about the homebrew scene, being an avid PSP fan since the day it came out, but what is XMB and Flash0 and how would I run it? I never knew what those were.

Also, with kernal access, would emulators run faster? I always have a hard time playing SNES because a lot of games still ran like poop even after I fooled with the settings.

Thank you to whoever answers these questions and good luck to the devs trying to make the homebrew community so much better. You guys rock!

XMB= psp main menu
flash 0 = where your firmeware is stored.

XMB = PSP Main Menu, press the home key and you're there.

Flash0 and Flash1 = where the firmware files and settings are stored. It would be a really advanced hack to mod these and still make them 2.6, if it was possible, it probably would have been done with 1.5 LONG ago.

Yes, but not a TON faster, just a little. Of course, this is only for optimised emu's, like TYL.

From the original front page post:
Quote:
Once implemented and fine tuned for "normal user" use, this will bring 2.50 and 2.60 Firmware up to the same homebrew capability that 1.50 PSP owners enjoy with FULL kernel mode access - although Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories will still be required, just like with eLoader.
Grand Theft Auto will still be required.

No. If anything, it will be a RAM patch, meaning as soon as you fully turn off the PSP, it will have to be patched again or just use GTA to boot up your homebrew like usual. As soon as it's turned off, the RAM is cleared.

That's a good idea, but they won't patch flash itself.

if they can patch the the flash0 on 2.5 it will make 1.5 and 1.0 psp usesless. I just hope that patching the firmware is as possible as it is probable. (does any one know where the security is located in the flash0, and if we were to overwrite this would it still allow the psp to function correctly.)

And, they would have done that LONG ago, just flashing 1.5 PSP's with this modded 2.6, rendering devhook useless. If it could have been done, it would have been done a while ago.

But now it may be possible with a brickless psp (U.P mod chip). No developer could practice modifying their firmware because one mistake and their psp is done for. Personally i just hope we see a custum firmware emerge that is based on the 2.5 firmware (newest version that we are able to decrypt) but is fully unlocked.
