Just want to say LordSturm you have made a great custom Fw the first time around and I will be waiting to see what else you can pull off.
All i can really say is that all of these button combinations are getting a little rediculous and all i ask is that if possible we just stick to menus as much as possible. Of course i would like a button combo to boot directly into my main XMB and also devhook. Other than those too..everything else should just be handled by menus.
well Harleyg's needs to read up on using open source codes, as he has modified Dark alax's code which is open source Harleyg must release his code under the terms of the open source license :pZitat:

NOTE: When using HarleyG's or Dark_AleX's mod, in recovery mode, X_Flash will not work, because homebrew is loaded in updater mode, and normal flashing can be messed up, u need to do it updater style, and not normal game style.
So im going to intergrate 2 recovery modes...
Auto-Format, which is the recovery.elf...
And XFLASH Recovery! ( Loads off MemoryStick. )
|_ Also loads off memorystick first time to backup your files.
Once i get a configurator happening, ill also make teh memorystick less-required, except for xflash and the updater. ( And mabye devboot.pbp because its currently 0.44 and that can update, the rest will be stored in flash. )
Also, i think we are going to merge all teh custom mod's together, but i dont know how thats going...
:P - Don't worry, my mod will pwn all!
BTW Dark_AleX didn't release his mod under GPU, so we are free to release it close sourced,
And what about menu access?
I'll reach it each time I boot, or only pressing a specific key ( imho the best is select )

Just coz you release something opensource doesnt mean you have to disclose your project aswell.
GPL is probably the strictest when it comes to that, and even then you only have to disclose the sourcefiles in which you actually use his code, not the whole project

i am thinking that we should not have to flash into flash0 just for a few changes.
the way to implement that would be to minimize the features inside the flashed prxs/elfs and make them open to use plugins residing on the memorystick.
the vsh-prx should check for recovery or baypass key and if none of both are pressed then pass the controll to a program on the memorystick for further handling of any keypresses (or if no key is pressed).
same with the recovery program in flash0: basic recovery features (usb/index.dat/flash) should reside inside the prx in flash0, but the rest needs to be snapins on ms0 imho.
that way ALL(!) mods could use the same files in flash0 and would only differ in files on the ms.
we would never have to put files in flash0 again after we installed the "DAX-Exploit-Loader". We would use our mods via ms0.

well, if nothing is there, this could be the beginning of a full custom firmware ("linux") for the psp, as the "only" thing we would need to do would be recreate the os (or better: our os) from scratch.
the original files could be deleted.
and if we manage to run devhook on "our" os then we could emulate the original firmware to play umd's.
(or maybe even include playing of umd's with emulated firmware in the os itself)

imho if someone would take care of that it should not be one man show nor a one site show. sourceforge and pspdev.org should be used ;-)

Sure can.
I already have a custom Firmware loaded. Can I load a different custom Firmware without downgrading, then upgrading again? Do I have to have a fresh 1.5 to load a custom Firmware? Or can I just keep modding my current 1.5?

Yes the menu is being implemented, im trying to get our x-flash master to help with that part, as our customfirmware will be strongly sponcered ( supported, more than sponcered ) by x-flash.
X-Flash will act as a Primary 1.50 recovery tool, and in the case of an unrecoverable disaster, the old Recovery mode, is still accessable, which has a new "auto-format" tool, that automaticly does everything needed to reinstall 1.50.
|_ You will require the 1.50 UPDATE in /UPDATE/ or it will update to the version there... :(
Anyway, yes a MENU is supported, and will appear once on the first time of use of my mod, and it will not appear once youv'e chosen the boot method, UNLESS you hold SELECT!

And i found out, i dont HAVE to release it open source, if any one developer is particularly interested in my methods, he/she may speak to me personally ( details given on the left lol ) and i will explain, and perhaps enclose snippets of code.
But for now, noone really need's the code, im not charging you for the content lol!
As i said before, FEEL FREE to go take Dark_AleX's source, and play with it, you can achieve my, or harleyg's status in around 1 or 2 days of work.

my requests would be:
1) small digital clock in the upper right corner during games and devhook or homebrew sessions (selectable via a hotkey in xmb before starting game/hb/dh). hotkey must be disabled during game to prevent interference with game itself OR needs to be aktive only in "game exit mode" [home].
2) bootmenu instead of keypresses. with a default option booted when a configurable time is over without any action (of course all must be customizable)
3) recovery menu accessible by putting psp on hold (i like that. prevents you from accidentially going there)
4) full customizable shortcut keys and all other things the mod uses

1) questions regarding details on prx loading
i now noticed the DAX-Hack intercepts one of the prx'es loaded on startup via /kd/pspbtcnf.txt.
does the loading of the DAX-Hack pseudo-prx stop the loading of the other prx'es in the file? or are they loaded simultaneously?
if they are loaded simultaneously, wouldnt it be better to change the file to load another prx instead of the original so we dont mess with an original file? that way the "restore" would simply be putting the old textfile in the system.
2) question about possibilities to not start any sony prx
would it theoretically also be possible to remove all prx'es from the textfile and just start our own prx'es? (just asking to see whether a complete custom os would be possible, and yes i know the os would have to be coded from scratch and that this would mean work, but that would in fact lead to a custom OS without any sony parts inside)
3) question about intercepting boot process earlier
afaik, the bootstrap loads the ipl and executes it. is the 1.5 ipl encrypted? can it be replaced by a custom ipl?
IF that was possible we could maybe intercept the boot process even earlier to implement a emergency recovery option which also works if the flash0 prx'es are broken.
sorry if those questions are maybe showing im a complete noob in programming the psp and just started reading about the boot processes and the prx'es, but that is fact and i appologize for my missing leet knowledge :-P

1. The vshmain.prx is the only prx given EVERY access to the psp, in all forms, so it can evenly distrubute the access amongst other prx's, including its own access.
By intercepting THIS prx, we get the ability to load a recovery mode, in UPDATER mode, a mode only updates get. ( Can be derived from GAME mode in 2.50/2.60 now... )
2. This could be answered with the next answer, well ofcause the hardware has its own methods for reading prx's, and we have very little idea how to entirly build our own prx's... BUT!
We could patch together a whole load of ELF's, and load them as a custom SHELL, but once again, that WONT be an OS, as for any of the psp functions to properlly work, we need access to the XMB, but im still looking into this, if vshmain_real.prx isnt loaded, what fate does the psp hold?
I think other prx's are ALSO loaded, besides vshmain.prx upon start, this allows C usage etc.
3. Tapping into the IPL is a dare devil feat, it's been tried before, and is at a very advanced level, also im quite sure people dont know how to edit them lol! ( We can currently write old or new ipl's depending on what we want to do with them.

i cant imaging (from my limited knowledge point of view) that sony implements different loading methods for different prx'es.
also i didnt know the vsh_main.prx was loaded in updater-mode.

Regarding a recovery mode in the ipl, that wouldn't work. Because if you were to create some code that could either format the flash (like the 2.5/2.6 dg) or exectute a update eboot would need to use some functions stored in the prx's in the flash.

Nonono it loads in VSHMode, which has direct access to Updater mode, but other modes dont have access to Updater mode, the psp dosnt boot in updater mode lol.
But the main prx is given all the access it wants, which is then distrubuted properly...

Yeah first, one needs to be 0 and the other needs to be 1. And I think AIOMod conflics with the mp3 module.
it seems as if which ever one is set to 0 works.....
Most likely because the conflicting function just cancels out the latter module. So, the mp3 module loads, then it tries loading the AIOMod module, but...just stops.
heya guys. i've finally decided to install the custom firmware (CF) yesterday (after alot of hesitation) and it works great. my PSP now boots into devhook (original CF, not someone else's CF). i do however still new at this so i need a few answers. what are the best modules that i can use with the custom firmware? can someone lists them down and what they do? for now the only modules i know are :
screenshot module - i don't use it much.
mp3XMB module - works great. can anyone tell me how to use this with devhook?
psplink - i don't know much about this except it's available in original CF's config.txt
thanks in advance as it really helps me to a better understanding on using custom firmware.
