If you turn on your PSP you will boot to 2.71 though devhook. If you hold L you will boot to 1.5. It is just like a modchip, in the sense of having both firmwares, and going to your orignal firmware by holding L.

The mod chip has the option to recover a brick from something going horribly wrong. IE, just not fonts or gameboots.

I like dual boot but with a shell. Lord Sturm, you need to add the recovery module slasher did in your recovery.prx please! It makes it easier to deinstall it without having to have an extra .pbp on your memory stick.

This can do the same, it can recover if you fu'ck up some prx. Recovery mode will not work if you fu'ck up a .prx needed to run it, otherwise, you basically got an unbrickable PSP. =D

Default My new edit.

In my new edit it's possible to change the way it boots in the config.

1. The default boot method, it will always boot homebrew when uncommented in the config.

2. It goes to a homebrew app or goes to the XMB while pressing L trigger.

3. It goes to the XMB or boots homebrew while pressing L trigger.

You can now acces the recovery mode with pressing L+R trigger.

I've also included Lordsturm's devboot.php, you go instantly to your emulated FW while holding R trigger.

You can unflash it with Slasher's unflash recovery.elf.

Download here

well the only advantage of a modchip would be:
1) full custom firmware possible (well, maybe that would be also possible via the 1.0 firmware, but i dont know) as the flash can be directly accessed
2) recovery of a "full brick", for example caused by malware (virus).
as we have so many new kernel mode users, we will most likely soon see a rise in malware for the psp (brickers). as always *sigh*.

EDIT:
also we most propably need to streamline the modded-firmware development somehow. having 10 different incompatible versions of "pimped" firmwares is so unproductive.

therefor, a "pimp-my-firmware" subforum (just a working title) would propably be the best. and ONE modded firmware having all mods inside (configurable via configfile) would propably be the best...

X-Flash had to be edited to work with the new custom firmware, will PSPersonalize still work with the custom firmware? That's the only flash edit program I mainly use.

Just going back a bit, when people were talking about the recovery mode and whether it would ever be able to unbrick PSPs, or a separate program that would be able to unbrick PSPs.

I would have thought that Sony have some sort of way of unbricking PSPs or troubleshooting them. Maybe they have a way of running a program that acts as an updater that revives bricked PSPs.

If there is a way of making an updater that simply requires you to boot the PSP straight off the memory stick (like when you have a UMD in it auto loads) we could make an unbricker.

I am not a programmer and could be talking ********, but thats my two cents.

You must remove all of the other custom firmware files first - I did it by downgrading to 1.00 and upgrading to 1.50

You know thats more risky then just upgrading to 2.0 and downgrading to 1.5?

Default well

So would it be possible to one day have an auto loader or something that will flash bricked psps? My PSP turns on and loads the UMD and memory stick, and the screen comes on but the menu doesn't pop up. I currupted the intro with the use of a large .vag file and PSPset. It's still alive it's just being blocked from starting with a corrupt intro. Is it possible to automatically reflash it? I like to think of my PSP as being a vegitable, It's still alive, it wants to work but that damn .vag file is stopping it.

Yup, we need to wait for a prx file that can be used whilst emulating 2.71

EDIT: I was talking about the the posts 2 & 3 spaces above

Its totally dead, if you had this custom firmware on before you bricked it, it could be fixed.

I still haven't had time to mess around with this yet. Do you need to assign the files to unbrick your PSP beforehand?

For instance, you place a 2.00 update on your memory stick as a failsafe and assign recovery mode to look for/run this file as an option? Or point to the 2.00 update through the USB option in recovery mode?

You can activate USB through recovery mode and place your eboot onto your MS there.

Or just be like me and keep a copy of the 1.0 index.dat in the root of your mem stick and a copy of the 1.5 update on there too.

Im wondering, has anyone actually used a 1.00 index.dat created through software, like X-FLASH, where you can change the version number of the index.dat, and it will say 1.00? Because I have an index.dat obtainded through the MPH downgrader, and I suggest using that one, as if the downgrader uses it and it works, then so should the recovery module. I dont know if the index.dat created by X-FLASH would work, as I havent needed to use Recovery Mode yet.

The one form x-flash works too. That is wher I got my index.dat.
