reading all over the forums I've come to the obvious resignation that my 2.7 psp is screwed unless:
a) a exploit is found
b) I buy a mod chip

Now the mod chip sounds fascinating except....

$$$$ and hand-eye coordination ;-)

are there are any reasonably priced kits/whatever that are easy to install(noob sauce skills)?

or should i just brick my psp and call sony/trade at ebgames?

other ideas would be nice

Don't spend $99 on a modchip or $199 to have it professionally installed.

Or start the update to 2.8, and when you get to 0% switch memory sticks to one with 2.0 update on it, then dg to 1.5

If you can still exchange your psp at ebgames then do that, theres only 2.6 psps around anyway, they haven't started making them with 2.7 or higher yet.

You don't need to brick it to return it if you have a warranty. Just say that UMD games are skipping or freezing on you often and it's getting on your nerves.

skipping or freezing when they test it, then what?

It's a 100% secure chance if you just brick it.

All EB/Gamestop needs to do is send it to Sony to get it reflashed.

mmm if i can find a eb with a leet/cool sales guy i could probly switch for one in the case for like 10$ or something lol

Then you explain that you paid for a warranty and the unit is not performing to your expectations and you'd like another.

You could go your route if you find it tough to explain to a 17 year old that you would like to call upon a warranty or exchange policy for a purchase you've made.

Best option is take the battery out while its updating.

I personally don't think its over for 2.70, at one point it was all over and 2.60 was boned. Never doubt the hackers.

Well you could do what I did. Have cousins/friends find someone selling their PSP, check what version, and then buy it for $100 cash. Then give your old one to a sibling or sell it. Worked like a charm for me
