Is there any applications i need to run on my computer to get this to work as it is not functioning it cant connect to network or something

You will need a VNC-Application on your PC running.
Try TightVNC; works like a charm.

am i doing soemthing wrong? i can only view my computer but cant do anything to control it.

That is pretty strange, I just started using it and have had no problems.

TightVNC is the best free cleint to have? Pw protected and other kool things

EDIT: sometimes your custom ip could not work, that happen to me so i changed it to emaple 192.168.2.99
