First post so please be easy if this is in the wrong spot.
I have an idea for a program that involves music files/mp3's. if there are any coders experienced in this, please feel free to email me or PM and I'll give you my general idea. Thanks. |

Ok cool here it is. I call it PSP1200.
This is an idea that turns your PSP into an mp3 "turntable". It features a skin that looks like a turntable which moves accordingly to the controls you use. You use the up and down directional pad to control the pitch. The right trigger to hold and release the song. The analog stick to spin the "record" foward or backwards by moving the stick in a circular motion. This can also be used for scratching. It can include a BPM counter also. I got this idea because I use the headphone jack of my PSP to output into my mixer and use it along with my turntables. It would be really nice to have pitch control and other turtable like features. Let me know if this makes any sense. |

I've actually had the same idea! In the future if I have much more time on my hands, I might actually work on something like this. There also is already DJSP, search for it.

Ox: your idea is worth 1/1000th of what the coding is worth. Ideas for apps are like ___holes. Everyone has one, and they all stink.
That sounds harsh, and I mean it to be. The reason I'm being harsh is becuase if you want to make a contribution to a program or a project and you don't know how to code, an idea is only one part of that. You can't just come up with an idea (no matter how good) and expect others to do the work for you. But you don't need to know programming to make something happen. If you really want to make it happen, you can do a lot to develop the idea. Put together a sort of 'business proposal' for it, and develop a complete design specification about what it is, how it works and how the user interacts with it ('use cases'). When you're done thinking about the functionality, put together the basics of how it looks - the UI and desgin. Then (and only then) go out and look for a particular developer to help you with the project. Find someone who has has done something involving the same technologies (i.e. mp3s and PSP) and for whom this would be a challenge and an opportunity (which is to say, don't strmnnrmn to code it for you!). Contact that person directly and show them that you've got more than just an idea - you've got a software design. And that's when your idea stops stinking and starts being something people will respect. I've done this myself, so I'm speaking from personal experience. You don't need to be a coder to develop software, but you need to put in work and make more of a contribution than just "Hey, why doesn't somebody code this for me." If you put in the work, people will respect you and help you and maybe in the process you'll learn something too. Best of luck. |
