i got 70 score, who beat that?
i havent played it but my friend got a 90...
With v0.1 my top score was 101 which I was never able to beat again, getting only around 85 as my closest. With v0.2 I was able to get back to 100 but haven't beat that yet.
I'm hoping I didn't make it too easy releasing powerups every 10 points, but I wanted people to be able to play the game longer with more types of gameplay. I've noticed with the new powerups, which should make the game easier, it has actually made me more careless and I seem to die scoring about the same, just alittle higher.
Upcomming features i'm working on:
1. Analog stick sensitivity (and possibly a slowdown/turbo button)
2. Adding more powerups, some which only appear at higher points.
3. Menu to select Classic (v0.1) and Arcade (all new features).
4. Animating the squares and/or updating graphics.
I'd love to add sound but I haven't spent much time learning how to playback sound yet. If any other developers would be gracious enough to post a very simple wav playback demo (compatible with the pspsdk if possible) i'd greatly appreciate it. Would be nice to allow people to pick their own mp3 song to play in the background also...
If you have any of your own ideas for powerups etc, post them here!
Hey, yes, I'm thoroughly enjoying Squarez right now.
-Regarding powerups, there should be one that makes the blue square smaller, in my opinion.
-Analog Stick Speed Control
-And some sort of extra warning on the timers...If I had a dime for everytime I had run out of a "yellow" while ontop of a "red" I would have like...a dollar, maybe a dollar thirty ;)
Love the game, excited for the newer releases, but please, don't ruin a good thing. Keep it simple, but with lots of options maybe... The gameplay right now is basically top notch.
I have recommended it to my one friend with a PSP...
Did I say I love the game?
Oh yeah, my high score is 74, but thats only for Day 1.
And as you said, MP3 Playback from MS would be great.
What game is this? Links?
Read the title, please... "Squarez". It's homebrew, and mighty fine homebrew at that.
Also, one last suggestion is the ability to change the background to a background of choice.
I like the idea for the classic/arcade modes... (but keep separate high scores for each.)Originally Posted by socals
a simple .wav file looping in the background would keep me tied to the game more than no music does.
some nice powerups would be great, but don't make them too easy to get... you have a good idea about only allowing them at higher scores....
as for graphics are concerned, maybe something to differentiate between the slowdown and the "destroy all enemies" blocks. maybe make them a bit bigger with a graphic on the inside? (such as a clock for the slowdown and a bomb for the destory enemies)
yeah, this is a really good game... I playd it 4 or 5 times... my highest score is 51... i'm definitly gonna try to beat that garbage score...
[B]Girl, just call me the gamecock, because when you beat it on hard, you get the special ending.
They call her a ho, and you hope to god it was true...
'Cause see, a ho f*cks everybody... And a bitch f*cks everybody but you.
I love this game, and it's nice to see you are asking for improvements! :)
- Try to make the blue square move a bit more "gentle", when you go fast it's like you have low fps on him.
- Make it like, the first powerup after 10 points, the next one after 15 points, 20 etc. Make them rare =D (Especially if you're going to add more).
And don't ruin this, it's awesome ^.^;
Edit: My highscore is 96 now, I'll try for a nice 101+ and be the king ;)
Edit 2: New highscore : 119 (also scored a 111 shortly after =D )
And after playing this much I have a new suggestion: After picking up a yellow square, it should be the same, but when the timer reaches 0, you would get a very short invisibility, you cant kill, but you cant be killed either. That way, you won't land on a 'red' and die.
I have great news... Last night I discovered that I was checking the analog stick status more than I should have been per screen update so the game was only running at 20 FPS. My new version (v0.3) which isn't quite ready yet is now running at 60 FPS and with silky smooth controls. I've also finished the arcade/classic modes (I need to make seperate high scores), analog stick sensitivity setting, and now X will work as a turbo button and O will work as a slow down button. Turbo and slowdown will probably be made available only to the arcade version. I'd like to leave the classic version as my original v0.1.
I'm not sure if i'll have v0.3 ready to be released tonight but I hope to have it done very soon.

if this game had music.. itd be perfect!
you should use the turbo/slowdown as "regenerating powerups" like they only last for a few seconds and then it takes a while for them to regenerate... otherwise people would use teh slowdown to cheat (gives more reaction time)Originally Posted by socals
its somewhat like the flashgame squares 2 if you've ever played it...Originally Posted by The Don Killuminati
anyhow you're a blue square. and the object is to collect green squares... wich each green square you collect a red (enemy square) appears... its alot funner than what i make it sound... but you can get it off the files section here. or at www.globware.com
Don, calm down.. Try looking first, then ask.Originally Posted by The Don Killuminati

i havent played the game yet but i will... But judging on what everyone is saying this game sounds awesome. Keep up the good work.
yeah...I just hope they don't "overload" it.
Framerate improvement has got me REALLY excited...
Heres a little challenge I just made up: Survival Mode
No Yellow Square, Pink Square, Blue Square...
How many Red's can you survive on the screen...Right now I'm up to 23...
EDIT: Made it to 26 points, without clearing the Reds...
If anybody doesn't believe me, or wants to see a screenshot of the pandemonium, just post, although I'm sure you'll do better.
as he said before he wants 2 different modes for the people that like it simple (like me) and sometimes i'll enjoy it with all the insane power ups and such... but i agree about framerate... =DOriginally Posted by xXGarrettXx
Okay, I just posted v0.3 on my website at www.globware.com, so you can check it out.
* Increased framerate to 60 FPS
* Added Classic, Arcade and Survival Modes
* Options area to select analog desensitivity, turbo adjust and slow adjust.
I'd delete your squarez.cfg file otherwise your old score will load into the classic score. I should create a file specification so I can convert the file if the format changes but it's pretty low on my list of things to do...
Also since this is the first release introducing sensitivity settings, it can really affect the difficulty of game play. In future versions I will be limiting the amount of sensitivity for each game mode so that everyone will be playing at the same difficulty level. I'll probably add a custom mode which allows the user to create his own settings.
I've had about a day or so testing (a few hours after work) but I wanted to get it out asap since playing at 60 FPS is so much more fun.. I can't even play the old version now!
BTW: My new high score is 143 in Arcade Mode with the default sensitivity settings, and I mainly use turbo to help clear enemies quicker. I rarely used slow but I did a few times just for fun. So I suspect other people will be scoring a lot higher now also...
I gave it it's own thread, Socals...'hope thats okay.
Very nice work, by the way. How can it get better?! Honestly...Great work.
i first tried this out last night, now i wake up this morning and there's another version! last night it was very good, but this new one is great!
this is a quality little game - thanks for your hard work!
...if it wasn't for physics and law enforcement, i'd be unstoppable...
i got more addicted on this game than Lumines.... >_<
I didnt play Classic that much~ Arcade more fun! =D
Add Sound!!! wahahahahaah
and maybe custom wallpapers? that would be awesome!!!
Time Attack mode maybe? like... get 50 squares under 1 minute! something like that! XD
I just found out about the screenshot adition... X_x, otherwise i would have posted my 36points survival... >_< it was insane... haha
ps. AWESOME GAME!!!
Time attack would be kind of a fun addition, in my opinion... Good idea.
85 after half an hour.
nice little game, but please dont create red squares too close to the player.
this is a great game! wow i played it for about an 1
my score is 163
My best score on survival mode is like 28...all those reds make it hard
Stop your b****ing...You should have gotten your psp when it came out..Now your screwed :D <--guess I need to change this. Oh well :D Long Live 1.5 but 3.03OE is better.
