Dark_Alex is about to release a 2.71 custom firmware for non-TA-082 devices called 2.71 SE (SE stands for Special Edition). Check out the IMPRESSIVE feature list:

- 1.00/1.50 Eboot support (both kernel and user mode)

- 2.71 Eboot support (both kernel and user mode)

- run on 2.71 vsh

- Ability to run devhook (both 1.50 and 2.71 versions are fully compatible)

- Ability to run any 2.71 (and below UMDs)

- 1.00/1.50 prx executable support

- support both kxploited and unpatched eboots for 1.50 kernel

- support any 2.71 homebrews codded for HEN C

- Compatibility is 100% for 2.71 homebrews and approx 99% for 1.00/1.50 homebrews

How does it work ?

Both 1.50 and 2.71 kernel are flashed into flash0
it uses 1.50 kernel to bootstrap patched 2.71 firmware

How to flash it?

You will need to use the helper that will be provided to get a complying dump into a DXAR format, once you get it done properly use the flasher to "update" to the 2.71 SE-A

Pros and cons ? :

Pros : - Full 2.71 homebrew support
- Almost full 1.50 homebrews support (some homebrews like umdemu or xflash might not work properly with it, still so far all of the 1.50 homebrews I tried worked fine)
- Recovery menu
- Full Devhook support
- Access to all 2.71 features
- Native 2.71 UMD support
- 1.50 decrypted prx executable support
- Real no-kxploit embebed (thus 1.00 unpatched eboot support)
- have access to all 2.71 kernel features using 2.71 homebrews, such as GPS support or wpa support.

Only known con: takes about 1-2 second(s) more to load the firmware at startup

It seems like it was supose to come out tonight, but DA decided to change the date, do to a few little bugs...

This is great news... makes me want to upgrade to 2.71

OMG. This is BIG. Recovery mode!

This would make 2.71 somewhat better than 1.5 since you can run 1.0 eboots without any patch. As long as I dont have to run HEN lol every time lol. Now I dont even wanna downgrade to 1.5(ta-082). Thanks DAX. Fanjita was hoping for a way to elimimate eloader need, and here it is.

For christ sake! Why the hell did i update for the... lovely, yellow blobs, which will, roll on steep hills, forever and ever, defeating moombas until, the cows come home... Oh LocoRoco! Stupid yellow peice of cr*p! I should have stayed at 2.6!

My own fault though, i coudln't over ride the LocoRoco mind bending abilitys!

I guess 2.71 is really the next golden firmware.
I am defantely updating because I think 1.0 eboots are so much easier to deal with and no kxploit program will be needed anymore.

I might update, If GTA:VCS requires 2.71, I think I'll update, even though I have 2.71 devhooked right now, I still would just rather use 2.71 legit, with basically everything 1.5 has to offer

hmm... this sounds great but the only advantage us 1.5 users would get out of this would be not having to start devhook every time.

There is a bug when you change the language to Chinese or Korean it bricks, Mathieulh and D_A are trying to fix that and Math said hopefully it'll be released tomorrow

this certenly does not make 2.71 better then 1.50

this is not 2.71 at all, nor is this 1.50

this is Custom Firmware.

All it is is 1.50 with 2.71 Features.

You cannot call it 2.71 beacuse it uses 1.50 bootstrap, if anything this is a custom 1.00 or custom 1.50.

it basically uses 1.50 to load up 2.71 off of Flash1, but keeps some of the properties of 1.50, so in theory it still is a heavily modified 1.50

i dont know, depends how you think about it

It is defenitly not 2.71 nor 1.50.

on the other side of things
