Hey, guys. This latest release has got to be the greatest recent thing to hit the PSP! You can play most games full speed without frame-skip (even Rhythm Tengoku works well!) and now 32MB games, ZIP files, and save states are supported! I know that most of you out there might flame me for being "ungrateful" because the coder of this emulator has done the IMPOSSIBLE by bringing us perhaps the best emulator ever created, but with such a closeness to perfection in speed, sadly, it is now much easier to notice the little things.
I just wanted to see if anyone else agrees with me on some issues. For example, the sound channels are reversed, and while it's not too big of a deal, it's a real shame to play games focusing on sound only to find that what's left is right and so on. I just wanted to get this out there in case no one else has noticed it. Also, since this emulator really can't get much faster, would it ever be possible to add an auto-frameskip feature so that some games with varying periods of zero frameskip needed one second and two frameskip needed the next (Wario Land 4, Yoshi's Island) will be automatically adjusted? It's a real pain to constantly switch the frame-skipping around because while we could just leave the setting at a higher rate, the game would be choppy when it wouldn't have to be. I hope that my fellow forum-goers can understand my pleas, and that you will also post anything that I may have missed. Thanks for the great emulator, and I am by NO means trying to insult your godliness! Mod Edit: A note from the developer.. Quote:

Haha, the topic title says otherwise.
If you wanted to be discrete, a pm or a post in the release thread would have sufficed. I have noticed the stereo swap before, just switch earphones, or put up with the speaker mix. As for auto frame skip, I'm sure hes onto it, but he needs a solid system for detecting the "slower" points in the game.

i have another complaint about this new release. The analog stick is EXTREMELY sensitive, which is very annoying as any little analog movement off center means it acts as if the pad was fully pressed. I am now wondering whether that's the fault of the 2.71SE custom fw or gpSP. But as you said i am in no way flaming a GREAT emulator or a GREAT custom firmware. Is anyone else on regular 1.5 having the same problem?
oh and a temporary fix to the swapped left/right channels would be to press the music button, changing the sound to mono edit: I would like auto-frameskip too |

The analog stick problem should be very easy to fix. I'll have a look at that and the sound problem

This is a good topic, I think. I like things that are relatively easy to fix >_>
The sound channels are reversed? :O First I've ever heard of it. That's easy to fix, sorry about that. As for analog sensitivity, I could change that too, what is the overall opinion regarding that? And I'm going to be working on auto-frameskip now, I just had a good idea for it last night I think. Finally. No promises of course. If any other emulator coders have good ideas for that let me know. |

There is one annoying thing is that you got rid of the 16 mb or 32 mb chip feature that was in 0.7 because now i cant even play pokemon emerald which turns to a white screen and fire red says the 1m board is not installed by the way great relese but is it at all possible just to make a new update and put that feature back in please?

Thanks ********, I really like your emulators, and this one is even better. A job well done. Thanks alot, it makes my brother jealous and lets me have some fun.
Just one question, not a complaint, I would like to know how to get certain games to work. Such as GTA for example, it works on PSPVBA (but is sort of slow) and doesn't work on gpSP. There are a few others like this also. Can someone tell me why it won't play some games?? Or if that is easy to fix at all? Thanks alot guys and especially ******** for an awesome GBA emulator!

The thing that really bugs me is the sound crackling in heavy modes, like FFIV's Mode 7 sound slowdown, but that I assume that will be resolved in future speed updates. Otherwise, yesterday was an excellent day! First custom firmware, then playing gpSP 0.8 on 2.71 SE! Metroid Fusion plays like a dream!

The only thing that I've noticed on this release so far is that in Wario Ware (the game I play 90% of time on this emu) some of the mini games have horizontal flickering lines around the minigame border and sometimes bleeds into the playfield. Not all of the mini games have this issue, but ones like the weightlifter game, balancing on the unicycle, catch the stick. only a small percentage are affected so doesn't bother me too much, but this definately didn't happen in gpsp0.7

First of all..I just wanted to say I feel privileged to be able to use an emulator like this one from an excellent developer like ********.
Just one little suggestion to ********...Have you thought about implementing rapid-fire? |

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned VSYNC, that is the one feature
i've really been waiting for. (i really really hate tearing...) Now, i don't know how hard it would be to implement such a feature, but, it would make games look a whole lot smoother. Oh yeah, you kick ass ********. |

Well... there are some things that need to be said... first of all, the graphics is still buggy because Exo uses a special rendering method and he hasn't implemented all graphics mode yet, some are buggy still but please be patient while he fixes them.
VSync is not implemented because it supposedly slows the game down by up to 75% of the real speed in some cases. This version of gpSP is now BIOS-sensitive and that means... you may need the right BIOS for a specific game. There are only 2 BIOS types and one of them is the genuine one that you can get from your GBA, the other one is the one that most websites on the internet has (this one is supposedly a beta version that got leaked to the net before the GBA was even produced). Please don't complain about games that previously worked with 0.7 but now don't for 0.8. 0.8 can run ALL games that ran on 0.7 and I've confirmed that about 75% of the games on the 0.7 compat list run either as good or better than 0.7. |

Other stuff: Analog nub settings - I'll try to put deadzone options, and setting to zero would turn it off. Rapid fire - It should be easy to add, I think, just as button options (that's why I liked the PSP -> function setup, it makes it really easy to add function mappings) Vsync - I meant to try this again and forgot. I don't THINK it should add a speed hit if done right. I tried it once a long time ago and it was slower but I probably put it in the wrong place. Could someone tell me if there's just a wait for vsync function, as opposed to having to do something else with it (like poll input)? Anyway, no one get this thread locked, it's convenient for me to be able to look over it before I release next time to make sure I don't forget anything. And for the mods/admins, I don't mind minor feature requests here, if that's okay with you. In fact I'd kinda prefer it. I just need people to follow these guidelines: - Don't suggest I make a game work, unless you have some kind of brilliant insight as to why it doesn't (99.9% of you won't be able to, it's very hard to find out) - Don't suggest "improve speed", if you have some great optimization idea let me hear it. - Don't suggest HLE BIOS (that is, removing the need for a BIOS file) - Don't suggest cheat support (I'll either do it or won't, no point bringing it up now) - Don't suggest any kind of multiplayer (ditto) - Read the thread first to see what has already been mentioned. |
