i only want to hear the downsides. i can read whats good about this in any of the other threads.

i bought my psp at 1.5 on the US release and have never downgraded or upgraded. i use devhook, so i know what 2.71 is like already.
i've seen a thousand things that are great about this custom firmware. now i wanna hear the bad, and only the bad. things i need to know before deciding to do it.

also, i'd like a few questions answered that are unclear to me:
will 2.71 now run cheatdevice?
i heard about IRshell issues. explain?
some homebrew won't launch?
i've heard that wifi does not work.
what bugs have been found?

The only downside is that the bootup takes a little longer but not that much longer. 2.71 can not run the cheatdevice but you could emulate 2.50 or 2.60 so u could use the cheatdevice. Not sure about the irshell problems. All the homebrw i tried worked fine and i tried alot. Wifi works fine for me.

Only downside, from a previous 2.0 user (week or two) and 1.5 user for months is the fact that cheatdevice only works on 2.6 downwards.

Else, i'm happy with my 2.7.1 SE.

iRSHell issues - you have to recompile the eboot by changing the param.sfo, very easy indeed. Tutorial:

Some homebrew wont launch?
Try putting it in the GAME150 folder

Wifi does not work on 1.5 apps only, 2.7.1 compatible hb is fine

Bugs? Well, not really a bug, but normal devhook does not work. Use the devhook for 2.7.1+ with the patch in the devhook fix folder.

the number 1 reason i dont install this is because of the chance of a brick.

and remember 1 thing 1.5 can do everything this custom firmware can do so if it aint broke dont fix it.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

In due time, 1.5 will die - proof that 2.7.1 is king is here. Like the 1.0 issue, some homebrew will be made for 2.7.1+ and you'll have to upgrade.

wifi works properly with 1.50 homebrews, only WPA encryption support does not because it is not supported by 1.50 kernel

not to mention that you umd's that need fw 2+ (ish) won't even run. it'll show the sony logo and gameboot, then go black and then it pops up with "The game could not be started. (8002012D)". and thats with smackdown vs raw 2006 which requires fw 2.6. sims which only needs 2.00 works fine. other than that i'm happy with my new firmware

I have tried GTA which needs 2.0 and works fine, and also a Loco-Roco demo which needs 2.6 and also works fine!

Maybe it is certain games??

wifi works on my 1.5 hb inc psp radio so that is bs

So far I got everything working, even Devhook I had on 1.5 you just have to change it around a little. But the 2.71 devhook can run it off flash so it saves space.

all i care about in the 2.71 SE is that i can play socom without having to switch back and forth beteen firmwares with devhook. now i can have it all at once.

My opinion is that if you're happy with 1.5 and Devhook, then stay there, there's nothing better at 2.71 SA.

I upgraded then downgraded back.

I noticed Killzone Demo doesnt work. Also doesnt work with devhook 2.71 if your using the HenC patch.

Only a few downsides.

- Note with wifi: 1.50 kernel doesn't understand WPA. So if you have a connection with WPA, you cannot
magically use it in a 1.50 application. Use WEP or not protection, or wait to wifi applications to
be ported to 2.71 kernel.

Some apps don't work (DaxZISO)

You can no longer use ThemePSP, X-Flash etc.

Some 2.71 UMD's don't start, need to boot through DevHook

Takes a little longer to start up.

That's about it.

iR-Shell can't multi-task between the XMB and itself very well, but other than that, this is the CFW I've been waiting for...no Devhook or Dual booting for me, and embedded iso loading in the future. Rock on.

No UMD's will boot using IRShell under 2.71 SE-A

It also seems that for some reason you cannot go back to default fonts after installing a custom one?

Or install a new font over the custom one!?

This was tested using Flashmod!

The above (fonts) may not be true, doing some further testing, will report back!

EDIT!!

The font thing is not true!! Disregard the Font statement!!

They just need to be installed a slightly different way and from a "Fixed" version of Flashmod!

this is good for alex to know tho. It will allow good fixes for later revisions. we are only at A and look at just the HEN, a simple single use flasher has gone through 3 updates.

well, i don't know if it really counts as a downside since theres really no change from what i was doing in devhook BUT... in the web browser it won't allow me to save..anything, files, or bookmarks. it just says the memory stick is full. but like i said thats how it worked in devhook so FYI.

custom 2.71 down sides?
