2.71/HEN compatibility issues.
Hi all. I recently purchased a US-region PSP which came loaded firmware 2.60 and included the TA-082 motherboard/hardware configuration.
Thanks to a few very helpful people here (thanks, guys!), I was able to upgrade this PSP to 2.71 and get various versions of HEN working, along with DevHook 0.46. This includes emulating firmware 1.50, which I have been able to successfully do.
The problem I have is that nothing seems to work, really, except for certain unmentionable things. I've tested these unmentionable things: half of them don't work in HENC and all of them work in HENB at the moment. So currently, I am using HENB in favor of HENC. I am only mentioning these items to give an idea of my compatibility issue and what I am using, I am not asking for support in that arena and that was never my goal in using the HEN stuff with my 2.71.
With homebrew, nothing seems to work except RIN, which works in either HENB or HENC. When I say "HENB" or "HENC" the only difference is the version of the "systemctrl_dh.prx" which goes in the ms0:dh/kd/ directory? That's how I've been switching back and forth: or is there something else to it than that? I assumed all other files are the same. Either way, I'm not sure it matters. I installed everything using a comprehensive RAR including all files to get HENC working. DevHook ran under this, but I couldn't get much of anything working (homebrew or unmentionables) until I found the HENB "systemctrl_dh.prx" file and replaced it with the installed HENC "systemctrl_dh.prx" file.
In any event, RIN actually happens to be the one thing that I mostly wanted to run, but nothing else does. The 2.71 eboots that come with the HENC installation all run after loading the HENC .tiff (with either version of the "systemctrl_dh.prx" file in ms0:dh/kd) but after emulating firmware 1.50, RIN is the only homebrew I can run, period. I've tried a few versions of multiple emulators, none of which work, nor does Squarez or various other homebrew applications, which is really the only reason I wanted this to work, for RIN and an SNES emulator, mostly.
Anyway, any help or advice is appreciated. I've searched around, but most of the talk here now is about the custom firmwares which I can't run, having a TA-082 hardware revision.
Also, I see a lot of discussion about a GAME150 and GAME271 directory, but I believe that only applies to custom firmware installations, right? Right now, I have all my eboots (both the 2.71 and 1.50 eboots) in the ms0:PSP/GAME/ directory.
One last note: yes, I am using proper/confirmed-working KXPLOIT 1.50 eboots with the normal directory and % directory, both placed in ms0:PSP/GAME/. I'm not completely new to PSP...my last one broke and I took a hiatus because I didn't want to shell out 200 bucks for a new one up until a few weeks ago. Anyway, I'm fairly certain that my problems aren't the 1.50 eboots themselves, but I'm not really sure what it is, then: am I installing them incorrectly? Is there a different way to set them up for HEN/emulated firmware 1.50 use? What am I missing?
Oh and something else I don't see discussed often though I hear murmurs about it: are there a lot of 2.71-native eboots? I can't find a list here of working 2.71 applications, nor can I find many homebrew applications that seem to be native to 2.71 after looking around. Oh well, this is my least concern, but I thought I'd bring it up.
Sorry for the long-winded post...I just wanted to be thorough in my explanation of what I am confused about and what isn't working.
