Lightbulb Changing firmware with a text file to play higher fw games

I was look through Flash0 with file assistant and discovered a file called "version.txt". I saved it and brought it to the computer and opened it and it had info on my firmware (2.8), the build, and the target of the firmware (which was worldwide). Now couldn't a person edit that file so your psp believes its a Higher firmware version and it would play games that require higher firmware like GTA:VCS which most likely will require 2.81+. Its worth a try and may work. I'm not responsible if anyone tries this and bricks there psp. Its an Idea try at your own risk. BTW a person would need kernal access to do it on 2.8 but 2.71 may work. I hope this works and another idea is to delete crucial files that sony has put in for security of simply editing them.

"release:2.80:
build:1415,0,3,1,0:builde r@vsh-build2
system:35183@release_280, 0x02080010:
vsh5270@release_280,v24 399@release_280,20060724:
target::WorldWide" thats what the text file "version.txt" said

1. The visible version number is stored in the index.dat.
2. Yes, you can edit it to say a different number, that's what X-Flash does.
3. No, it won't help play newer games. The newer games need newer PRXx, not just a higher version number.

If it were that easy, you could change the version of the psp to 1.00 and then update to 1.50 even though you would have a higher firmware. In other words, no its not that simple.

index.dat and version.txt are encrypted on 2.50+ so you couldn't change it anyway.

No, even if we could change it, it still isn't that easy. The security is dependent on much more then a 3 digit number.

i was thinking the same thing, but to copy the 1.50 fw files into a directory and then put them in the flash0 folder, man was i sadly mistaken! i also thought about editing demo data.psar and data.psp files by replacing them with the homebrew files, another shining shunning!
