Default Custom XMB Sound - The Proof of Concept

Since last night I have been looking at system_plugin.rco (in VSH/RESOURCE) and I was quite suprised to find all the xmb sounds stored in VAG format (44100hz 16-bit Mono).

What does this mean? Custom sounds in the XMB.

I will explain details better later on and possibly make a tool for custom xmb sounds.

Until then feast on these videos:

Sounds are flashed to PSP NAND (Version 2.71 SE-B): http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?...41137&hl=en-GB

Sounds in devhook: http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?...16393&hl=en-GB

Sounds from Dev Version 1.0.2 (aka bogus 1.0): http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?...77654&hl=en-GB

So that rco isn't encrypted?

Because on 2.71 topmenu_plugin.rco is.

X-flash can do this btw.

No it isn't encrypted and as far as I know x-flash does not flash custom xmb noises.
topmenu_plugin.rco contains the icon data. I am looking into this.

X-flash can change it but cannot flash custom ones.

Which file? I know it will flash opening_plugin.rco for bootsound and topmenu_plugin.rco for menu names.
I have never seen an option for the xmb sounds (system_plugin.rco) in X-Flash. I hope you are not confused with the PSP boot sound.

Nope.

No idea where it is but it can make it alot deeper sounding.

Ask in the X-flash thread.

Its no surprise that its not encrypted. Ive changed plenty of XMB sounds by editing the file. Its fun, probably the most fun .rco in there

You should make a tut for people who don't know how to hex edit everything.

Ive seen it in a video before, like a year or so ago as well. For some reason it isn't in X flash, guess Art never knew about it? Oh well nonetheless I'm sure plenty of people did not know it was possible, so nice job DarkStone.

Good job, I am too lazy to look through all the firmware files in a hex editor, I am glad someone has some spare time to do that

X-Flash has been able to do it for six months. Hardly an original find or "Proof of Concept":
http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-hacks-9/t...ighlight=sound
The only reason I didn't open the option for custom files (made by the user)
is because it's hard to produce good sounds of the required size.

I think you never figured out you can move sideways in the X-Flash menu for more options.
