Default [New] PSP Hardware: TA-086

There's a new version of the PSP motherboard out now, the TA-086, according to 0okm. Nothing is yet known about it, though my guess is that it doesn't bode well for the scene.

I was just going to post about this.

wonder what will happen with this one?

bet it was made in preparation for PS3 and 3.0

It was just a matter of time.

Get ready for a whole new wave of bricks once it hits North America and Europe.

I agree, as much as I don't like to admit it, the PSP is dying on both sides, homebrew and official. With more and more developers leaving the scene it can't go on much longer, especially with this new hardware. Also, I think 0okm probably changed his e-mail (and rightly so) after the TA-082 downgrade thing went, well, not so good.

I wonder if there are any homebrew capabilities in this new motherboard and if there isn't then all the people who get on are going to be wondering if they have one and how they bricked thier brand new psp trying to downgrade to 1.5 and load homebrew through various methods because the readme only states do not use this unless u k now for sure that u dont have a TA-082 adn nwo the devs are going to have to probably write in not for TA-086.

My bet is that it's going to be for 3.0 and the ps1 emulator. Because sony is trying to full proof there upcomming firmware so it can't be cracked. Just my .02

I dont think the homebrew scene is dying. All we need is a full speed n64 emulator and imo homebrew will be complete for the psp. Ya i agree officially the psp is dying. I think if a company made a good mmorpg(similar to guild wars so it would be free online) for it then that would breath some new life into the psp.

Other than the protection of the NAND, what do later version motherboards actually do? Maybe their faster, maybe they do nothing to improve it.. I'm curious why thy would make a new version other than to f-up the downgraders.

It overheated sometimes, and caused damage. Personally I think they should add an A/B/G wifi adapter into the newer motherboards, I hate having 1-8mbps speed. And a G interface isn't much bigger so it would fit into the PSP.

That's the article about the new wifi module. I'm sure it could be rather easily confirmed whether or not this is the TA-086 from pics if someone has nothing else to do.

Yep, I think TA-086 is mostly for the Wifi antenna and *cough* of course for added security measures that are supposed to block firmwares upto and under 2.80 from being run on the board... the 2.80 is just a speculation but seeing what Sony did to homebrewers with TA-082, we can't rule out any possiblities now.

You can't update hardware with software.

I personally think this will also block downgraders from going below an akward firmware, (2.8 for example) just like the TA-082's did.

Most likely TA83 - TA85 were test boards that didn't go into production.

I imagine that the TA-086 is just the next TA-082, not much more than added security for blocking lower firmwares. I wonder if 0okm's multi firmware module can work in this one, given that the voltage of the NAND is lower on TA-082s, maybe this one is different yet again. If it is it could be a while before we know what it can, or can't, do.

Well it was inevitable Sony would bring out yet another motherboard revision. This will make things even more confusing for people looking for homebrew compatible PSP's.

Also looks like we won't even be able to distinguish a TA-086 like we did a TA-082? Damn.
