I was taught that not everobody plays by the rules and that some people just have nothing better to do with their time than be jerks to others. So unfortuantely I too have a more pessimisitic outlook on things that's been bashed into me from a young age. I'd love to go out at night and feel safe walking to the store but that's just not the reality.
That's why I'm not feeling sympathy for a dev who quits when things don't go exactly their way, like that person who stopped working on the psplayer because it was posted at pspupdates and so on. For one, I don't really see a problem with it being posted to pspupdates. Is there some conflict I don't know about? And also I personally would know that if I release something, it'll go places I probably never intended it to go. If it's popular, it'll spread to some alien civilization on planet 9 somewhere and there's nothing I can do about it except super encrypt it with a password I guess.
Still, I respect other devs because unlike the jerks with no lives who throw **** at them, they're doing some cool programs for free in their spare time and giving it away for nothing. So in a way these guys and gals are mini-santas. How can you not love them? A lot of people appreciate them in fact, but the disrespectful and overly hostile punks who couldn't even dream of doing this computer programming are usually the loudest voices amongst the populus of grateful users out there in my opinion.
