Well, if it overwrites them, good. If it doesnt, it won't matter- you can change backgrounds in 2.0 without PSPersonalize.
Is it just me, or is the PSPersonalize, PSPSOne, PSP-ick, and other such names beginning with PSP starting to get on everyone's nerves by now?

Also I might add that the update may just overwrite the old one and everything will be fine. I am just stating the leaving them there increases the chances of something going wrong. thanks dbase

any way, no, you don't have to change them back... the FW will have the backgrounds on them, and they'll just overwrite the custom one on your PSP...

Also the original backgrounds were very small, and adding bigger bg's caused corruption. I think that sony will either allot more memory space or allow bg's to be pulled off the MS. But if they do it internally then the memory allocation will change. And there IS a chance of something bad happening. But since you already know that it will be fine.. Go for it

Ok heres my theory, Since the psp doesnt know you have custom background it cant tell the different, if the psp doesnt replace the background, then then your Pre 2.0 hacked background will be permenatly set as the "default" background. So say if you have a custom background for July, and you update, you could change the backgound for july in 2.0 but when you take the background away you will be left with your 1.5 custom background. Just a posibility, get me?

and I think Sony is aware that PSPersonalize is around, and I'm sure that they would make 2.0 so that it would replace the backgrounds, and make sure it replaced them early in the FW updating process... it would make things easier for Sony, so people can't claim that 2.0 bricked their PSP... I know nothing for sure, i'm just going off of probabilities...

But what if Sony changed the whole wallpaper structure? I mean they probably made it so that if you set a custom wallpaper, it sets it for all eternity, and ignores the month wallpapers. So maybe it just leaves the wallpapers alone...

1) for all we know FW upgrades may just patch the existing firmware
2) They may place the BG's in a different place or memory address 3) The FW may overwrite XXX bytes of backgrounds (xxx = number of total size of orginal backgrounds) 4) Whatever is left could jack up the firmware 5) I wouldn't put a bit of it past Sony... they haven't shown a lot of friendliness towards us so far ... :wall: |

I doubt there will be much trouble. Almost always firmware updates do actually OVERWRITE the whole firmware of a device, maybe leaving stuff like the bootloader in place for emergency booting in case something goes terribly wrong during the update.
If you want some examples, think updates for Pocket PCs/Palm OS PDAs, mobile phones, mobo BIOS updates, router firmware updates etc Consider that the reason that firmware updates are carried out sometimes is to actually fix corrupt firmware issues. I doubt that these updates would actually require a health firmware in order to be applied. Just my 2 cents |
