Okay for this guide i've included a bunch of tools that aren't by me but ive added them to a single rar for the sake of making life easier, so props goes out to the authors of the following programs :
Okay first things first, to do this you will need either a ps1 memory card reader or a modified ps2 with LaunchELF installed or on bootable cd.
And either a network cable to your pc with an FTP deamon installed on ps2, or a usb thumbdrive or you could just use your psp connected via usb cable.
STEP 1 - Getting the files
Connect the cardreader and dump your memory card to pc, putting the dump into the same folder as PSXGameEdit.exe then jump to step 3
Modded PS2 :
USB drive : Now connect your original PS1 memory card to your ps2 and load LaunchELF, navigate yo your memory card and do as follows depending on what your gonna use :
USB Thumbdrive/psp : Press L1 to show the file game names, and mark the files you want using X, when done press R1 and select Copy, navigate to your usb drive and press R1 again, and select Paste.
Network cable : Navigate to your ps2 memory card press R1 and select New folder, make a folder named PS1, now navigate back to your ps1 memory card and Press L1 to show the file game names, and mark the files you want using X, when done press R1 and select Copy, navigate to your PS2 memory card and press R1 again, and select Paste.
Exit LaunchELF and load the FTP daemon, now connect via ftp and navigate to your ps2 memory card and copy the files from your PS2 memory card to the Raw Convert folder.
STEP 2 - Converting RAW memory card files to usable format.
Assuming you've dumped the raw files from your memory card to the Raw Convert folder, navigate to that folder, select all of the files you got from the ps1 memory card and drag them onto the PSXRC.exe file, this will convert them all to .mc format.
STEP 3 - Converting format to EPSXE compatible.
Load PSXGameEdit.exe and select File > New MC Image.
select one of the () Free slots, most porbably the first one so the radio button is checked then go to File > Open single game save.
Navigate to your Raw Convert folder where you should now have various files ending in .mc, and select the one you want.
You can add more than one by selecting another free spot in the "Memory card slots" list within PSXGameEdit, when you're done and have all the saves put on the card that you need, you can either save the memory card image somewhere named "MyMemcard.mc" or go to step 3b.
If you dumped your entire image with a cardreader you can just open the entire card within PSXGameEdit.exe and save it as MyMemcard.mc.
STEP 3b - Converting PAL saves to US/JP within PSXGameEdit.
Please be warned this does not work for ALL games but its worth a try if you don't have another option.
While still in PSXGameEdit, select the radio button next to the game you wish to convert and select either the US or JP buttons on the top bar, if it just converts the code then your game will definatelky work, if you get an unverified message it might not work, but either way when you're done save the memory card image somewhere named "MyMemcard.mc".
STEP 4 - Converting memory card image to EPSXE compatible.
Run psxmemtool.exe and select Open, and locate your MyMemcard.mc file
You can now either Save and select "ePSXe (*.mcr)" from the save list to save as MyMemcard.mcr, or go to step 4b
STEP 4b - Converting PAL saves to US/JP within PSXMemtool.
seNow you've loaded up your MyMemcard.mc file within PSXMemtool, right click on the gamesave you wish to convert and select either Convert region to > American, or Convert region to > Japanese.
PSXMemTool has a small database of which games do and do not work, so its worth noting that you might not be able to get your saves working in another format if the icon beside them in the conversion table is RED.
Once done save your "ePSXe (*.mcr)" file as stated in step 4.
STEP 5 - Sorting memory card blocks for saftey. (final checks)
In some cases your games will have the same identifiers, such as games with multiple save ability, such as FF7, it may list them all as "FF7-S01", in PSXMemtool's Identifier column, if this is the case double click on the savegame to open the hex editor, and at the top under "Header block", change the Identifier to something else, eg, FF7-S01, FF7-S02, FF7-S03, etc, clicking save after each edit, then save your "ePSXe (*.mcr)" file as stated in step 4.
Loading your savegames!
Install the latest CWCheat with memcard manager support (CWCHEAT 016 Rev E for 302OE POPS PSX), load up your psx game and hold select till the menu appears, navigate to memry card manager and select "Save card 1 to memory stick", exit the psx game and connect your psp to your pc and navigate to x:\seplugins\cwcheat\mc\, here you will see a file with the name Sxxx_nnnnn-0.mcr, the xxx being the region identifier, and the nnnnn being the game id, copy the filename and rename your Mymemcard.mcr file to it, for example, i take my Mymemcard.mcr and rename it to SCUS_94163-0.mcr.
Copy your custom made memory card to x:\seplugins\cwcheat\mc\, overwriting the old one, then load your psx game again, hold select again and go to the memory card manager, and this time select load memory card 1 from memory stick, edit out of CWcheat and load your original psx game within your psp!
It's a good idea if you want to preserv your original gamesave on the psp's actual save system, to exit out of CWCheat with your data loaded up already, and save ingame as you normally would.
Tools can be downloaded here. though i'd appreciate it if a mod/admin could upload it to qj's download center and edit this link, thanks.
