First off, let me just say this: When it comes to the homebrew scene I am admittedly rather noobish. And I know there's plenty of others just like me out there, as well as others who are flat out noobs. So I thought it would be nice to put together one thread with all the information one might want about going from a restrictive TA-082 motherboard to playing your own PS1 games on your PSP.
I wasn't sure which board to post this on, but obviously, I chose this one. Upon suggestion, I will move it to a more appropriate board.
Also, if this thread is appreciated and it is requested, I will update and add more information as time goes by. Perhaps make it an all out FAQ and such. This won't be very in-depth in terms of actual directions on how to do everything, so much as simply giving you the materials. Most of these have readme's, and I'll also link to a couple of guides. Again, if requested, I may make this more of a thorough guide itself.
Here it goes!!
Let's say you have a TA-082 PSP. The first thing you need to do is make sure it's firmware is 2.71. If you're above this firmware, there currently isn't a way to downgrade yet. Though there likely may be soon. If you're below this firmware, you need to download it and install it on your PSP
Next you need Hen D homebrew enabler. This will allow you to run the TA-082 downgrader.
After that, install the downgrader, as well as the firmware 1.50 eboot.
Firmware 1.50 Eboot
Once you've downgraded your PSP to 1.50, you can now upgrade it to custom firmware 3.02 OE-A.
Dark_Alex's 3.02 OE-A
Now simply install the 3.02 OE-B update to your OE-A.

Now your PSP is capable of playing PS1 games. You just need to get the games! If you're looking to download ISOs, I can't help you out here. But if you're looking to rip an ISO from a game you personally own, I recommend using this program:
Once you've got that, you need to convert it so it is compatible with Popstation. First, download this:
PopStation GUI v1.0
You won't be using this program, but it contains a couple files that you will need to paste over to the program that you WILL be using, which is this:
Using this program, you can convert your ISO to the PopStation format so that it will play on your PSP. However, you can also customize the background, icon, etc. So let's check out some stuff you can use to do so. Use the following to resize and convert your images for backgrounds and icons:
Remember that icons have to be 144x80, backgrounds have to be 480x272, and both must be in PNG format.
If you're looking for pics to use, here's a thread that has quite an expansive collection:
Many thanks to the fellas over at maxconsole, and hope my linking to them doesn't upset anyone lol. Also, this was released and is expected to be updated frequently:
PSX Icon Pack
And believe me, there's plenty of other places you can find pics. Any good link, suggestions or methods of making your own pics will be added in the future.
Next, we have a program you can use to make music that will play when you have your game highlighted in the XMB:
You'll also need this codec:
ATRAC3 Audio Codec
And here's a guide on how to make the music file for your game:
Well I do believe that's all I have to start off with. Once again, any suggestions, corrections, additions, etc. are greatly encouraged. Hope everybody likes this and enjoy your portable PS1 gaming!
