First to say HI since thats my first post.
Okay, I don't even have a PSP, but I have recently tried it and can use it from time to time. So, maybe I get one if can find an individual one with a K (2.71) on his box. (btw, are those still avalible nowadays?)
Ok, so here are the random questions:
1- Supose I downgraded succesfully to 1.5: what exactly I get from upgrading to the lastest Dark Alex 3.03's, besides proper PS1 Emulation? Also, how exactly that firmware works? Its just an emulation of 3.03 but still has 1.5 as a base? (don't know if im explaining myself ok on that one).
2 - About homebrew: What really catched my attention since I hear that is that people where porting all time PC FPS classics (Quake, Doom, Duke Nukem 3D) to the PSP. Now, the one that works better its Quake afaik, but also heard Doom plays without a problem, and Duke seems the worst of those three, specially because the sounds seems to have an higher pitch and as a result Duke's voice sounds like a smurf or something.
SADLY, afaik noone of those three projects are being updated, and im very surprised why those projects doesn't have a decent webpage and one or more people working on it, since only the idea of playing those three games have been a "very worth" reason for buying a PSP for a lot of people (including myself).
So, what actually stops me from buying a PSP right now is the fact that lots of very nice projects seems to turn Vaporware very fast (specially Duke Nukem 3D port, since afaik only a release its avaliable, that appart from having weird sound, has random crashes and you can't load a game.)
Btw, the game runs at normal speed? because from videos that i've seen it seems like it runs a little faster than normal, like when you emulated VERY old games on your 1000mhz computer, and you had to use tools to downclock the CPU to make it work properly. Maybe this is causing the high pitched sounds? I don't know since DN3D works perfect on a 200mhz computer, but I don't know about how the PSP deals with that.
So, what should I do? Should I wait for the hope of someone taking the DN3D port where it is and hope it gets better and better? Or just considering getting a GP2X, since it emulates Quake, Doom and DN3D perfectly (afaik, anyone can confirm?) but anyway, if I get a GP2X, i wouldn't be able to share custom map files with other people like you can do with the current Doom port (it support custom wads afaik, which is one of the most awesome points of porting the PC games) since noone here knows what a GP2X is. Finally, I know theres the PS1 DN3D but I discard it, it just sucks (and again, no custom maps to it).
Well I think thats it. Sorry for the huge post and the lots of "afaiks" on it :)
