I think you should add (if it's not there, I may have missed it) that if someone is on 2.82-3.03 and cannot find an unpatched GTA, that they should just upgrade to 3.50 and do that downgrade as Lumines is MUCH easier to find that an unpatched GTA, especially as there aren't patched versions.

just downgraded my TA-82 2.81 to 1.50 and upgraded it to 3.03. Just want to say massive TY, really good guide.
Downgrading my TA-082 2.71 PSP in a couple of mins, waiting for it to charge to around 75%. Anyway, I've a quick nooby question:
I open the folder, screen goes red. Do I press O and try again or restart the PSP manually (switch for 5 secs, etc)?
Restart your PSP fully (Hold up for around 10 seconds...) and retry.

I can get the updates on the memory card but the PSP doesn't detect them at all. It currently has version 3.40 on it. Some more help would be great. I also don't have lumines.

Hello, I'm new to all of this but here goes.
I bought a UK PSP its current version is 2.50. I downloaded the 2.71 update renamed it to EBOOT.PBP and copy/pasted it into PSP/GAME/UPDATE. When I put the memory stick into the PSP and go to the XMB it doesnt show up as being on the memory stick. The Memory stick in question is a Sony Magic Gate 512mb.

Make sure you copied it over correctly and it actully is in X:/PSP/GAME/UPDATEZitat:

It goes on the memory stick it shows something like 4xxmb free but it doesnt read it as an update when I go to the memory thing in the xmb. Just says "There is no data" or along those lines.

When you go to your psp were did you look for the update....
It should show under game in the xmb...
Thanks for clearing up the drive thingy. Yeah I go to the game part of the xmb and it shows
"Save Data Utility" if I click "x" it shows "There is not Data"
"Memory Stick" shows 464mb free, when I click on it "There is no game"
Still no joy :/
IF you can try doing a clean format of your MEM stick....
THen Re-download the update and put it in the update folder... Then see if it shows up...
Ok, I managed to get it to finally work, heres how.
I reformatted the stick as you said but it seems if I just push my memory stick into the PSP the light just flashes, I have to half insert it and hold it there I guess?

BUT I managed to get the firmware thing done, but its lead me to another issue the next part as shown in the guide was to put the 271dg files into into the root the update.pbp in the update folder and run slideshow but my PSP isnt letting me do that.
Do you think its a memory stick related issue? Or am I screwing up again?

it takes many times to run Homebrew enabler rev.D for 2.71, try putting a wallpaper on the xmb, and do a full reboot and go straight to the photo, repeat reboot and go straight to the photo, it will work eventually if the files are all placed correctly

Ok all done but now when I turn on my PSP the power comes on but the screen stays black? the power goes off after a few seconds any idea how to get the screen to come on?
