I had a question for this community.
Today i purchased a psp (but i haven't popped it's cherry yet , i.e. still sealed). The main use I would be getting out of it would be homebrew.
My question is: What is the quality of the current emulators (snes, genesis, mame) as far as speed and graphical problems?
Your input would be greatly appreciated. Plunking down the money for this PSP was a big expense for me and I don't want to end up with something that woulnd't be right for me.
Thanks in advance,
the SNES emulator is pretty much perfect in my opinion, although can't run the btter graphics gams such as Donkey Kong, Kirby and Starwing, but runs any other game I've tried perfect with only a few laggy bits.
Same for the Genesis emulator, had Golden Axe, Altered Beast etc. fine.
As for the MAME, I haven't tried this one yet, but would imagine it is fine.
EDIT: Don't forget the PSX emulation!
SNES emulation is great. SNES9x TYL does a great job of emulating every game I've tried. You need to mess with the settings a bit for some games to run well but that's for intense games like Killer Instinct.
Genesis emulation is even better. DGEN runs any game I've tried fullspeed without messing with the framerate, etc.
As for MAME, I haven't had much of a desire to run games on it since there are literally 17 different emulators that each include a different set of drivers for various game companies. ex: one build for Capcom, one for Konami, etc. The reason for this is that the size of drivers added into the binary adds up very quickly and it needs to be split into different binaries so there is enough room in RAM for the ROM being played itself. I've heard that it does really well with games but can't say for sure first hand.
All in all the PSP is a great system for emulation and it's a very good reason to own one. Congrats on your purchase. :D
Thank you both for your opinions. Much appreciated. :Punk:
