Something to consider about Deadlaus' Speed...
After using the latest release, I have realised that the emulator is actually closer to full speed than most people seem to think.
From what I've read, many people seem to think that fullspeed on the emulator is around about 60 on the fps counter. However, the n64 only ever reached that amount of FPS with one game - F-Zero X. The rest pretty much all ran at 30fps and under, depending on the game - and there is no way to change that, because it is how the games are coded.
For example, using FRAPS, I was able to find out the maximum (and mostly consistent) framerates in a few games.
Now, there are two counters here. One is the Frames Per Second, which is at the top left, and the other is the Fields Per Second, which is displayed at the bottom right, and reaches up to 60fps. The counter at the top left is the game's true speed. The FPS counter at the bottom right is the speed that the emulator is reaching, displaying alternate fields each second. This is merely a representation of how well the emulator is running the game - it is not a representation of the game's FPS, whereas the counter on the top left is.
Both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask have a maximum speed of only 20fps throughout the entire game, slowing down only at some boss battles by about 5fps. Currently, if I remember correctly, OOT runs at about 11fps or so on the PSP - full speed is only 20fps. We need no higher than that, otherwise the game will be running too fast (something which happens on Mario 64 on the PSP emulator where it is emulated at a higher FPS than which it is set to run at - the game speeds up considerably, hence why an FPS limiter is needed).
Mario Kart 64 is designed to run at a fluent 30fps throughout, which is the full-speed for that game. We're already there in time trial mode.
Mario 64 was designed to run at a smooth 30fps, which is a higher FPS count than Zelda is designed for. However, the graphical requirements are a lot less, which balance this out fairly.
But yeah, I dont know if this thread has been made before - but if it's helpful to anyone, then that's good.
edit - the three screenshots that were here are gone, due to my photobucket account screwing up. They'll be back soon.
