Very safe, the only real way you can brick is if your battery runs out (and you don't have the charger plugged in) or you don't follow the instructions properly, other than that it's safe and easy.

I've also used the 2.71 generic downgrader, and it works great. However, if you've got a ta-082 most people recommend using the 2.80 downgrader from noobz.

its just as safe as running an official update. because thats basicly what its doing. it formats the flash0 and flashes a completely new firmware.

TA-082's were able to be downgraded first on 2.71, so I'd use that to avoid needless flashing.

7 for 7 (I helped my friends).

I'm pretty sure the bricking rate is fairly low... less than 10%

Follow the directions, go for it.

Yea, but the 2.71 with TA-082's can corrupt the idstorage.

Use the 2.80 or 3.03 to be safe.

It was suppose to corrupt the IDStorage. At the time that first Generation downgrader was made, little knowledge was known about the ta-082 idstorage, so they corrupted things that seemed "needless" This new downgrader was made because more is now known about the ta-082 idstorage. They found out all they needed to change was some 0x05 key. Thus, this new downgrader was developed. I dont see this downgrader is very different from the first gen one, its seems VERY similar, only difference is the idstorage changer, i think the risk is the same.

Yeah because the idstorage is not the actual downgrader, but i think that the only way that people have bricked is through using on the wrong motherboard/stepping on the cable?? Correct me if i'm wrong plz

well i can confirm that the following downgraders have worked well for me on a minimum of 3 occasions each: DAX's 2.71 Generic Downgrader, Noobz 2.00/2.01 easy downgrader, and Noobz 3.03 downgrader.
noobz 3.03 downgrader is probably the safest downgrader as it has all the checks in it, but you need a GTA umd.

The generic downgrader should be fine as long as you dont have a ta-082+ motherboard

I heard that some Sony updates dont even format flash0.

And generic downgrader is near impossible to brick with. I mean, it even loads the update into the ram incase of mem stick malfunction.

Downgrading 7 PSP's, your a trooper. I've downgraded 4 (Not including my own). I really want to set up a Direct Download site that has a easy downgrader and a pre made 3.10 OE-A update ready to be used so I can attempt to downgrade a PSP inside my local Best Buy. Updating it to a Custom Firmware would be sick. But because it's not my PSP to hack and I don't have permission I don't want to risk bricking it....

I wouldn't trust the easy downgrader though... I'd still do it manually...

I'm pretty sure it went from 2.71 to 2.8. Not to 2.75

well with the PSP's at stores you can't access their mem sticks so if you were to do it you would need an easy downgrader
