Default OFW 1.5 to ?

I've got a psp phat with 1.5 on it coming in the mail today, and I can't seem to find an answer to this question:

Do I need to incrementally update CFW on it, and if so where do I start to end up with 5.50m33 safely?

Otherwise, can I just start at 5.50m33?

I was under the impression that I wouldn't need a pandora if I started with a psp1000 and OFW 1.5, unless I screwed something up.

If I'm incorrect on that, let me know and I'll get to finding an extra battery to buy lol.

unless you want to spend a few day constantly updating firmware until you get to 5.00M33-6 or spend 1/2 an hour with Pandora, it is your choice

So I do have to go incrementally, could you get me a link to steps for doing that manually ie. where to start, which order to go in?

Honestly I don't mind spending a day or two updating firmwares, though if there isn't 100 updates, I doubt it'd take that long. It'd take a week to order a new battery at least anyway.

you could start by looking at this: Technical Custom Firmware (History?) Question about Dark-AleX - MaxConsole Forums
I do not know that far back as I have only been in the scene since 4.01M33

FOUND THIS!
If you're psp FW is 1.5

- Select your PSPs drive letter
- Click Install

2)
- Once finished, go (on your PSP) to Game > Memory Stick.
- 1.50 Step Only Run KXploit Permanent Patcher. Follow on screen instructions. Once finished, continue with the steps
- Run 3.52 M33UPDATE (from Game > Memory Stick)
- Follow the on screen instructions
- Once completed you should have 3.52 M33
- Backup first, then format your Memory Stick

3)
- Open the .rar you downloaded before (3.52_M33_Installer.rar)
- Then, inside that, open M33-1234.rar
- Plug your PSP into the computer, and copy the entire PSP folder to the Memory Stick, confirming to merge, copy, replace whatever comes up
- Once copied, go into Game > Memory Stick and run the 3.52 M33-4 Updater
- Follow the prompts. If the installer fails, set your game kernel to 3.52 in the recovery menu. To do so, turn off your PSP by holding the switch up for 3 seconds. Then bootup while holding R. Go into Configuration then set "Game Folder Homebrew" to 3.52 Kernel

And there you have it, your psp is now on 3.52M33-4 and can upgrade to any higher firmware

That sounds like what I was looking for, thanks!

Once I hit the 3.52-m33 can I go straight to 5.0 or 5.5?

Try upgrading to the CFW 3.71M33, then 3.80M33, then go to 5.00M33-6, I will fetch you the guides shortly!

Thank you very much, I'll start with that guide as soon as it arrives (the psp), hopefully I won't screw it up and have to buy the battery.

You can, but it is risky, if you don't want to risk buying the battery, just do in the order I have posted the guides.

So the way to do it is to follow each of these guides, incrementally. I can handle that.

Edited: NM I see 3.8-5 on that last post.

Yeah that should do me.

If I were to order a pandora, to have around and I bricked it doing these updates, the pandora and MMS would fix me up right, no need for a 'friend with a psp'?

lol, the psp1000 came... but they apparently shipped me a slim battery. I guess the wait time for a pandora is negligible now that I have to buy a battery anyway.

Sorry, that wasn't meant to be like a question. I already knew that

Bought it to play arcade, nes, snes and possibly n64 and psx games while away from an outlet.

I meant to ask earlier though, what's the limit of what a straight OFW 1.5 can do?

yes there is reason to update to latest CFW
you can play your UMD games as well.
if you got 1.50, that will already play all your emulators for nes, snes, genesis, MAME and the list goes on.
but alot of these have been made better and recoded for 3.xx firmware (which work on 5.00 custom firmware)
if you want maximum UMD support, go for 5.50GEN (full) by installing DCv8 then using XGEN mod to modify DCv8 for GEN firmware.
if you want maximum homebrew support, go for 5.00m33-4 which is easily installed via DCv8 installer or even rains ultra MMS maker.
after 5.00m33 is installed you can then install 1.50 add-on kernel so all your old 1.50 emulators work as well.
but trust me when i say that theres no reason to stay on 1.50 anymore.
if you find enough new emulators that work on 5.00m33 i would even say use OFW for UMDs (since you have a fat PSP) and use test m33 for homebrew, which will load 5.00m33 off the memory stick and will play emulators and everything else homebrew perfectly, only drawback is 1.50 homebrew wont work (i'm working on a fix so 1.50 kernel will work using test function, but my coding skills are very poor to say the least)

@malianx - If u are on 1.50 fw , u can directly go to 5.00M33 using Hellcats Recover Flasher.
Use this guide. Go to part where it says "How to Reflash/update Firmware (Semi-Bricked/1.50 PSP Users See Here)"

@Fetts - I know u are trying to help. But dont post random stuffs that u are not sure off. It will lead to a lot of confusion... And stop Quadruple posting..I think u have been warned once before.
