Default Been away for a looong time, want to do the following....

Hi all -

I've been away from these forums for quite some time now. I haven't used my beloved PSP in about just as long. I actually have 2 PSP's and here's what I would like to do.....

I currently have Custom FW 3.52 M33-3 installed on both of my PSPs. I would like to give these PSPs to my sons (11 and 9). However, I want to give it to them with just the current stock PSP firmware installed on them (I know, they'll be missing out on a lot but they don't live with me and I wouldn't be able to update their PSPs with the newest custom FWs often enough and they are too young to really take advantage of all that the custom FWs have to offer anyway).

My question is can I simply go to the PSP and choose to update the fiormware to the current stock PSP version over the air or do I need to uninstall the custom FW 3.52 M33-3 first before I can update to the latest stock FW?

If I need to uninstall first, can you guys point me in the right direction? As I said, it's been a long time and my custom FW skills are rusty to say the least.

I'm hoping it's going to be just as easy as simply updating to teh lastest stock FW but I fear it won't be that easy. Thanks in advance for any information anyone can supply to me.

The latest stock OFW is 6.10. Download it from here. Extract it. Place it in a folder called "UPDATE". Then copy it to the "ms0:/PSP/GAME folder. Make sure that the kernel in the recovery is toggled to 3.XX . Start the update, and relax.

If that didn't work, or the file was shown as corrupted, then you have to update to 5.00+ OFW/CFW, then to 6.10.

Thanks elite -

I DL'd the latest firmware and put it on my PSP in the proper directory. I went to my memory stick under Game and tried to run the update but got:

"The game could not be started. (DADADADA)"

So, I DL'd the 5.51 OFW and tried installing that but got the same message. I did go in and toggle the kernel to 3.52. I also have 3 different GAME folders on my memory card.... GAME, GAME150 and GAME303. I put the update in the GAME/UPDATE folder and it sees it on my memory card and shows up under the GAME menu as an option to run.

Any ideas?

Default Yay!!!

Use DC8 to install 5.00 OFW then launch the 6.10 updater when finished.

But really why do you want to remove the CFW my son is 12 and he uses all of its emulators/joypad/irshell features!

I know, I know. But as I mentioned earlier in the post I live across the country from my son and I wouldn't be able to keep them up to date on the custom stuff as much as I would want to. So, going with the official FW is the easiest thing to do.

What is DC8 (like I said, I've been away a long time) and how do I use it to install OFW? Can you point me in the right direction?

DC8 is Despertar del Cementario 8 it allows you to install 5.00cfw/ofw using a Pandoras battery. Just research it a bit.

"Despertar del Cementario 8", "Pandoras battery". Good Lord. I knew I had been away for a while but sheesh.

Shouldn't I just be able to do this a lot more simply than having to use those tools?

It can install 1.50 ofw, from there you launch the 6.10 updater.

You could use the Time Machine down/upgrading method but if you don't know about Despertar than you will really be confused about it.

@whiteclad57, stop throwing suggestions dude.

You can't directly update from 1.50 to 6.10 directly.

blaidan, you are getting that error, because Dark-Alex removed the ability to directly update from a CFW to an OFW. I must've remembered that, but anyways. Check this guide. Section "For CFW PSP users to update to 5.00 M33-6". Then from there install the latest OFW. Good luck.

Ok, I actually tried the Hellcat's Recovery Flasher 1.60. On my first PSP I was able to downgrade to 1.50. I then copied the 6.10 update to the memory stick and was, in fact, able to update the PSP to version 6.10.

1 down, 1 to go......

I then tried it on my second PSP. I again was able to downgrade to 1.50. I then went through the same process with the 2nd PSP as I followed with the 1st PSP. However, I get the follwoing error when I try to update the 2nd PSP to 6.10:

"The system configuration of this PSP system does not appear to be correct. The update cannot be completed. Contact technical support for assistance. (DRNFFFFFFD7)"

Did I brick this PSP? I would've thought that if I bricked it I wouldn't have even been able to start it up properly. The System Information shows that I am running version 1.50 of the System Software.

Any ideas?

The one I'm working on is a PSP Fat. Not sure if that means anythign with regard to your suggestions. I did try to use KeyCleaner because I did a search and saw others with this error used that to unpatch a certain key and it cleared up their issue. however, i can't get anything to run from the Game menu that's on my memory stick. Can't get Hellcat's Recovery Flasher to work now either. Grrr.

im pretty sure cfwenabler works on the fat too but since you can run anything from your mem stick id make a pandora battery(hard moded unless you get hombrew working) and a magic mem stick

xgen is better than cfwenabler try running that on your psp.if u cant im sorry the only other option i can think of is pandora

Indeed. But, I do appreciate all of the help.

Here's where I stand at this point. As I mentioned, the first PSP went without a hitch.

1st PSP:
1) Used HellCat's Recovery Flasher 1.60
2) Successfuly downgraded to OFW 1.50 (verified in System Settings)
3) Put OFW 6.10 file on memory stick
4) Ran 6.10 update file and successfully updated to OFW 6.10

2nd PSP:
1) Used HellCat's Recovery Flasher 1.60
2) Successfuly downgraded to OFW 1.50 (verified in System Settings)
3) Put OFW 6.10 file on memory stick
4) Ran 6.10 update file
5) Received the following message:
- "The system configuration of this PSP system does not appear to be correct. The update cannot be completed. Contact technical support for assistance. (DRNFFFFFFD7)"
6) Tried to install another update (2.71... this update was on the Madden 07 UMD that I had in the PSP)
7) Received the following message:
- "The system configuration of this PSP system does not appear to be correct. The update cannot be completed. Contact technical support for assistance. (DRNFFFFFFD7)"
8) Used KXploit 0.3 to reinstall HellCat's Recovery Flasher 1.60
9) Received the following message:
- "The game could not be started (80020148)
10) Did a little research and saw that some people with this message about the system configuration not being correct used a program called KeyCleaner to unpatch some keys and that that seemed to work for them.
11) Installed KeyCleaner via KXploit 0.3 and ran it
12) 7) Received the following message:
- "The game could not be started (80020148)

At this point I'm stumped. It doesn't seem like I can get the Homebrew apps to run either. I'm open to any ideas.

T.I.A.

========================= ========================= ========================

**UPDATE**

Just for kicks I tried once again to update to the FW that resides on the Madden 07 UMD (2.71). This time I was able to update to 2.71. So, after updating and restarting I copied the 6.10 OFW update to the PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder on my memory stick. However, when I attmept to run it I still receive the same error:

"The system configuration of this PSP system does not appear to be correct. The update cannot be completed. Contact technical support for assistance. (DRNFFFFFFD7)"

So, I guess I got a little further. Howevfer, I still receive the same issue.

Again, any suggestions at this point would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You have no choice but to use a pandoras battery or search around for 2.71 SE and install that then run the 6.10 updater.

Latest update...........

I've been able to incrementally update from 2.71 > 2.80 > 3.03 OFW.

However, I seem to have reached a roadblock now. Haven't found anything I can install that will not throw the same message that I receive from my above posts.

This is strange that it's letting me incrementally update (at least it was).

As before, I'm open to any other suggestions. Don't really want to have to purchase a Pandora battery or anything. Also, not sure if I'll be able to get any CFW back on this thing. If you guys have any suggestions I'm all ears. Thanks!

Oh damn. Why did you downgrade to an OFW when you can upgrade to a higher one (with an another method). Anyways, did you try to restore system settings? if that doesn't work, then you should have a Pandora battery and an MMS.

To answer your question, I tried simply upgrading directly from 3.52 M33-3 to OFW 6.10. That did not work. As i mentioned, I had no issue using HellCat's Recovery Flasher 1.60, restoring to OFW 1.50 and then updating directly to OFW 6.10 on the first PSP.

However, when I used HellCat's Recovery Flasher 1.60 to downgrade to OFW 1.50 on the 2nd PSP something got funky. I was not able to simply update to OFW 6.10 from that point. However, I could make incremental updates to OFW's from there. 1.50 -> 2.71 -> 2.80 -> 3.03.

So, at this point, sitting at OFW 3.03, are you saying that I have to purchase a Pandora's battery in order to fix whatever it is that is happening?

Since I am sitting at OFW 3.03 is it possible to get to some CFW at this point? If I can do that I may be able to then eventually get back to OFW 6.10.

Thanks!

I know what happened to you, but I wanted to tell you that there is an another way. You can only update to 5.03, then use ChickHen R2 from there. Since you aren't able to update to anywhere, then you have to get a Pandora battery and an MMS.

First, try to restore system settings.

My apologies, i meant to answer that question and simply forgot as I was responding :-)

If by "Restore System Settings" you mean go into the "System Settings" menu and do it from there (i.e. - reset the language, date, PSP name, etc.) .... yes, I did try that to no avail.

So are you saying that from my current position of OFW 3.03 that I should be able to update to OFW 5.03? Because I tried to go to OFW 3.52 and OFW 4.00 from OFW 3.03 but was unable to do so. Feels like I might be stuck on OFW 3.03 but not sure.

Can you explain to me what the Pandora's battery does exactly and how it can help me fix my issue? Is there a helpful explanatory link for it somewhere? And can you tell me what pandora's battery coupled with MMS would do? Since I don't know what MMS is I guess a short explanation of that would help as well.

I truly appreciate everyone's assistance with this issue and the helpfulness that you guys have given me.

If only this 2nd PSP would have been as simple to update as the first one... ugh.

========================= ========================= =

MMS = Magic Memory Stick. Duh. I'm dumb. Sorry.

Check the universal CFW installation guide linked in my sig. Then, go to the section for fully-bricked users.
