Is GEN better? I haven't seen any updates for M33 in a while.. Also, how would I go about switching from M33 to GEN if I wanted to? And would my CTF themes still be compatible with GEN or would I have to convert them? Any help would be appreciated!

U mean 5.00M33-6 right? 5.03M33 is a cfw enabler for psp 3000s and unhackable 2000s.
5.50 GEN D3 is the latest and i would suggest u update to D3 straight away.
U can update to 5.50 GEN D3 directly from 5.00M33-6..Here is a video tutorial:
CTF theme of 5.00M33 will not be compatible with GEN.. U will have to use 5.50 GEN themes.
Yeah, but no 1.50 Kernel support. Is GEN better?
This guide. Section "For CFW PSP users to update to 5.50 GEN-D3 (NEW METHOD)".how would I go about switching from M33 to GEN if I wanted to?
You can convert them using Patpat's app, or just use the new 5.50 GEN themes. You must also use the newer CXMB compatible with 5.50 GEN.And would my CTF themes still be compatible with GEN or would I have to convert them?

yea update to gen-D3 it rocks
oj people
I'm a bit lost in this all gen thing creation.
I know it's not new but to me it kinda is, so mostly all I wanna know is, can ya still play PSone games on it?
Sorry if this ain't the right place but I can't find pretty much any info about 5.500gen line O.o
yes i am pretty shore you can
While it's true that 5.50gen-x doesn't have 1.50 support you can still have 1.5 support using time machines multi-ipl loader. Then update the it to the pandora that gen supports.
I'm just a end-user and Developers see me as a retarded fish.
Spoiler for "M33":
If you want help via skype I'm DLoc0420, just send me a pm on qj and I'll set up a time to help you.
Well if there's no 1.50 support, what am I losing? The only programs I'm using anyways are emulators, BookR, and PePViewer (not the old 1.50 versions where there would be 2 folders for 1 app. Ex: Bookr, %BookR). Would those be useless in GEN? And I'm curious too, would PSX games work? I haven't bothered to put those on my card in a while but there's some games I wanted to finish up.
Basically, no.Would those be useless in GEN?
Ofcourse. And I'm curious too, would PSX games work?
Okay so I bought A new PSP 3000 and I don't know if I want my PSP to be 5.00 M33-6 or 5.50 GEN-D3 (FINAL). So my question is Which one is the best CFW for my PSP?
I want for my PSP is to RUN any ISOs and PS1 games, and oh other cool apps like CFW Enabler V3.7 or Emulators.
Well you can install 5.03 GEN-C with an extra Prometheus 5.03 GEN-C Addon and Custom Firmware Enabler v3.70.
I hope that i didn't forget something.

No, GEN is definitely not better than M33. M33 is the most stable firmware, and it has some advantages over GEN.
1) To play the newest games on GEN, you have to install the prometheus add-on. But, you can also install prometheus on M33. M33 can also use the m33-620 plugin to play new games. Or, you can just use a program such as Iso Tool to patch the new games.
2) GEN users can't play older homebrew. M33 can install LEDA, or the 150 kernel add-on to play older homebrew, but those can't be installed on GEN. (Yes, you could use Time Machine for some things, but most users don't want the hassle, and Time Machine boots into M33 firmware anyway. So, why not just use M33 in the first place?)
3) M33 also has the memory stick speedup option. This makes everything run faster, and you really notice a difference when you're copying files from your computer to your PSP.
4) M33 has full iR Shell compatibility. With GEN, you can't use things like: slim advanced multi-tasking, and nethost functions.
5) There are other random issues as well. GEN D3 can sometimes corrupt save data, and can cause crashes in newer games such as Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, and Persona 3. The prometheus add-on can probably fix this, but as I said before, you can also use prometheus on M33.
6) GEN is actually just a hack of the M33 source code. But, since they didn't write the firmware themselves, they broke compatibility with a lot of things, and they didn't know how to fix it. There's an old quote on the LAN.ST forums from Dark_AleX (the creator of M33) :
"There is something Magixien and pspgen don't tell users of GEN: GEN is compiled with the source code of M33 that I gave to Helldash. In other words: when you are using GEN cfw, you are using 98% of M33. And despite that, I'm not credited at all." - Dark_AleX 1-22-2009
1) You can also even choose what games you want to launch via 620_m33 plugin via pergame.prx.
3) GEN also has a side installed for MS speed up. However, it is quite buggy, and doesn't stand a chance over the one integrated in M33.
4) There is a new hostcore for GEN-D3 designed to minimize bugs in usb/nethost. It is here.
Well hearing this should I use Hellcat's Recovery Flasher and flash my psp back to 5.00M33 then install M33 Prometheus. Would it work and if it does will I eventually have to update back to gen for new games that come out? Or will they be covered by an update to Prometheus. Also just wondering will the following plug-ins still work if I downgrade to 5.00M33 Prometheus
Game Categories
CXMB
Music.prx
Audioboost
CwCheat
Sorry for the boatload of Questions
PSP Slim- 3.71 OFW, 5.00 OFW, broken screen
PSP Slim (new one) 5.00 OFW, Pandora Battery, 5.00M33, 5.50 Gen-A, 5.50 Gen-B, 5.50 Gen-D3 (Full), 5.50 Prometheus, Tempted to downgrade to 5.00M33 for M33 Prometheus.
Yes, you could use Hellcat's to go to M33. Also, you can install Prometheus on M33, or you can use it as a plugin. I like it as a plugin, because it works exactly the same, but you can turn it off if you ever need to. You can download the Prometheus plugin here. If a new game comes out that doesn't work with Prometheus, then it won't work with GEN either. We would have to wait for a Prometheus update, or an Iso Tool update so we could patch the game. All of your plugins will still work with M33, but your themes are designed for GEN. You would have to get the M33 version of your themes. I hope that helps.![]()

I've been using 5.00M33-6 for quite some time and have had zero problems with it. While I keep hearing complaints from people that use GEN.
I wish we'd get a new custom firmware. I hate having to jump through hoops to play new games. OFW has a lot more features now...
I don't completely agree. I am on 5.00 M33-6 Prometheus MOD, and it is perfect. No matter how much OFW evolves, CFW always tops it since you'd have a huge number of participations and developers using unsigned code to run. OFW restricts "Power users and enthusiasts".
Yes OuterHeaven. M33 is alot better than crappy GEn cfw.
Besides, i think Team PSPGen is DeaD :[
How is cfw m33-6 prometheus-2 with .cso files? And I just was wondering what people were talking about switching there speed from something to sony or vice versa in the vsh menu. What is the reason of doing this and where should it be when playing .iso, .cso, and emulators? Is somthing needed to be installed in order to run .cso files better? Thanks for your help in advance!
I'm questioning this myself as I have tried playing Peace Walker after the P-2 update and it seems to hang after any loading screens such as post-comic sequences/failures in action. Due to this, I am currently trying out two new builds of the game - a patch kit with the GEN-D3 fix released many months ago to patch the .cso, and a converted untouched version of the game, but in ISO format. I will report back once I have finished copying the two games to my MS.
GEN is currently the only CFW out and about in the scene these days... and GEN isn't dead, they're just not publicizing anything.. M33 IS dead however.
(UPDATE) I have tried both the untouched ISO and the patched CSO and neither get me any further than the after-mission interactive sequence... This is quite a disappointment... guess I'll need to reflash Prometheus-1 v2 and see if it'll work then :/

Cool. Let me know which Peace Walker version works best and if you are using it on m33-6 p-2 or gen d3 p-2. I'm on a 1001k model myself. I had bought a 3000 but someone updated it to ofw 6.31 so I haven't really found any good information how to play .iso, .cso, and emulators in it yet. Seems that there is no cfw to go to when you are at ofw 6.31 on a 3000. Another Question.........
When people say use the m33 driver instead of the sony driver. Where is this located and why would you switch from one to the other. Is this something to do with playing .iso vs .cso or umd's? Thanks again in Advance!
You mean the M33 driver and the Sony NP driver. M33 has better compatiblity with games. However, rarely you see games that can only be launched with the NP driver, but there is.
If you mean the M33 driver, and the official non decrypted driver (the one that the PSP use to launch UMDs), then it is because to be able to play backups on the memory stick without the UMD prompt or game start error.
would appreciate if some one could help me?..ive noticed the new games uploaded on torrents are working on GEN D3 but i have 5.03 m33-6..can anyone help me to upgrade to GEN D3..or torrent sites of new games working on 5.03?..
would appreciate anybodys help
Don't do ANYTHING! You might seriously brick your PSP if you don't have a hackable motherboard via Pandora. How did you install 5.03 M33-6 A.K.A 5.03 CFE? With ChickHen? I suggest you run pspident 0.6 to determine the PSP mobo, then we will tell you if it is eligible for the upgrade.
OuterHeaven has right, m33 is much better. All releases of 5.50 GEN (4444, A, B1, B2, D, D2, D3-final) are unstable and slows down memory stick access (difference is appreciable even with disabled speed up ms).
