FileAssistant request

Hi this is one of the first times I've posted in a PSP forum so I'd like you having that in consideration.

First of all I'd like to congratulate Fanjita for this life saving loader, and Calum for the enhanced menu. Your work is really important to us Europeans and also to all GTA fans.

I've been reading stuff since the swap trick for 1.5 but bought my PSP only in October (I live in Portugal so 1.52 was already installed). I sticked with 2.0 for the browser (can't use the wipeout pure in my campus) and fear of downgrading (although rare I've heard about bricked PSP's).

Now heres my request. I've been thinking about this since 0.7: "wouldn' it be nice to have a nice file manager built in?". Before this version FileAssistant was working so I said nothing because there were far more important subjects, but now it's broken I think it would be a big plus for the loader to have these features. Maybe in 0.9?

I know both Calum and Fanjita must be busy right now but since Linjr FA is open source... or someone from FileAssistant team could help...

I hope I'm not asking too much... :)

P.S.: An unziper for downloaded files would be awsome (maybe using unziplib...)

file assistant uses kernel mode, plus it can access the umd drive, flash0, and flash1. v2.00 restricts browsing through the files contained in the flash.

I'm talking about the 0.4 version. It worked in 0.8 loader.

I know I could have both loaders but that is not the point. Using the other half of the loader where only the bg image is displayed, it could have an FA apearence (maybe you could make that selectable so it wouldn't always show). What I'm talking about when I say FA are features like copy, delete, move and rename. We can already browse folders with the loader (previous versions) so this would be a nice add-on.

Maybe it could be a different .pbp like Calum's loadmenu.pbp.

I'm not talking about FileAssistant 1.0 (with all those great features), what I want is a simple, good looking file manager.

Adding file management stuff is a good idea, I don't know how soon anyone will get around to it though.

BTW, the interface to the menu (and some sample code for the original basic text menu) is public - see a thread in this forum, called something like "so you want a nicer UI?". So anyone is free to write their own menu, it's just a standard C homebrew app. And I'm always happy to provide help + support if it's needed.

As far as I know, Calum's main plan for the next version of the menu is to add display of the icons etc.

yeah but the menu isnt as cool as mine ;) i may release the source to mine after i get the incons working

Well, requests for ports and such (new games) is against the rules (rules meant to prevent requests for new PSP games/ports), but this is a request in Fanjita's forum about his loader which he has devleoped to be great. The forum policy does not really apply to this as much because it is more of a suggestion to development process, anyways Fanjita said this: Adding file management stuff is a good idea,

Thanks for the PSPositive feedback. I don't have a habit of posting because unfortunately there is a LOT of flaming in the scene.

I saw your replies last night but it was too late and I was too tired (went out with some friends...).

Anyway this is something I would do myself if I knew how to code (I'm in college but never had or will have any programing related suject :cry: ). All I've ever done is a nice mod of a 2.0 offline portal with javascript games and apps (I didn't code the original, wouldn't know how, but did have a lot of work changing and translating almost everything).

I'm posting here the link to the source code of 0.04 (sorry its not 0.4 as I wrote before :o ) hoping that would help anyone with the skills, interest and time. Hope it helps

If you guys make the loader have display icons and backgrounds i well love you! ( for about a week or untell I want diffrent features :P )

Where can I find the 0.4 version of File Assistant? I dont see it in the Files section.

I think you can also find it at PSPUpdates...

It's a quite usefull app and replaces the use of a pc many times (would be great in the loader with a fresh new face... but it's enough until then).
Don't expect breath taking interface (it's very simple and unpolished) but it does do the job. It is broken in 0.8.5 but worked in 0.8 and maybe in 0.7 if I remember right.

Yes definately worked in 8.0.

I just have 8.0 & 8.5 on my PSP and use 8.0 for file assistant. (It is very useful but read the button config, can be easy to delete by mistake)

thats what I do but I also use 0.8.5 and 0.7 togeth on a different MS for Squarez. frmariam

0.04 wont work on 0.8 for me. It freezes everytime I tell it to load the EBOOT for it. Am I suppossed to use the 1.0 or 1.5 EBOOT?

I always use 1.0 versions of everything (find them more stable and compatible even if they were converted from 1.5 with SeiPSPtool)

Give it a try. If it doesn't work I'm sure it worked in 0.8, though you may not want 3 different eboot loaders... Hope it helps :icon_cool

I have 0.8 and 0.8.5 on one memory stick and 0.8.5 and 0.7 on a different memory stick. I tried the 1.0 and 1.5 versions of the 0.04 version of File Assistent that u posted and it doesnt work. The EBOOT Loader freezes everytime I select the EBOOT for File Assistant.

That's strange... The link is not corrupt and goes straight to the dev's site... The server did seem slow though ... But I just downloaded it from the link I posted and was able to use it with eboot loader 0.8 (0.7 didn't do it).

Try creating a folder Named FA inside your game directory and place the eboot.pbp that is directly inside the .rar outside any folder. Use 0.8 loader and don't forget to use the patch.

If this doesn't work try finding a different place to dowload. Best of luck :icon_cool

hmm it works now. I had ardy applied the patch and stuff so I just took out the 0.8 loader, restarted the PSP and put it back on with the patch and everything and then File Assistant worked. Very strange

Yes that does sound strange but it also happened to me with RIN 1.32...
Just hope devs start deving with 2.0 in mind, using no kernel, including an exit option... Hope they follow SCUMMVM team's example deving for 2.0 users, because lets face there are more and more 2.0 user (even more now with GTA). Games like Final Fantasy, Tekken and Pro Evolution Soccer that may one day come will be more then enough to make almost everyone upgrade.

Untill then we must be gratefull for Fanjita and all the other 2.0 devs's work

frankly I just want the newest file assistant to work. not as much for the actual file management part, but for the flash player. How well does the new one work? I heard it was way better than the old one.

Yeah, I think that would be great but I think it's more likely that someone will release a flash player or integrate flash into an existing player than seeing the latest file assistant working... Big loss though...

Still I do use the web a lot and know some pretty decent sites for downloading oldschool roms (when I'm in the University without my laptop) that are really lite and snappy.

My laptop is about 5Kg so I don't take it there so often (the PSP and some handy homebrew took its place) but I did need to use a pc from once and a while (can't download to every folder I want).

Since the pc's there are always full of ppl in the MSN or Hi5, it would be a pain without FileAssistant. That's why I'd love these features in the loader, for me they are really lifesaving

What would be nice would be a calendar function so I can keep track of events. Maybe someone will figure out how to get PSP PDA to work through the source file.

Hey Calum just read 0.9 will have icons! Hope it's true... That sure would be great :)

By the way hope your not mad about my requests... Tabs and file management...

I really apreciate what you and Fanjita are doing and I would help more if I did know how to code... Since I can't all I can do is post my ideas and give a visual image of what I'm talking.
