IrShell v1.6 Wifi NetHost Setup Tutorial (Windows)
Well... Since there is going to be a mass flood of questions, thought id answer one right now...
Just follow this exactly and your set!
- Download IrShell v1.6 from AhMan's website http://www.ahman.co.nr/
- Download the Network Host File System Server for Windows...
- Extract and Install IrShell onto your v1.0/v1.5 PSP
- Extract the Network Host File System Server file to anywhere on your pc that you want to view, my suggestions is the root, this allows complete access.
- Launch IrShell
- Press R+Start and start the Configurator
- Scroll down to NetHost IP Address option.
- Click 'X'
- Now, leave it there for a second while you obtain your IP Address on the local machine.
- To do this, start the Command Prompt.
Way 1: Start->Run->'cmd'
Way 2: Start->All programs->Accessories->Command Prompt
Way 3: Go into any text editing software, and type in:
"command.com" without the quotes and save it as a .bat
file. - Now, you may need Admin privleges so, react appropriatley
- Type in the command prompt: "ipconfig" without the quotes
- Where it says: IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.PORT#here.PORT#he re
Remember that number or just keep it open - Go to your configurator on your PSP again
- You should be editing the defualt Ip address provided
- Replace it with what you get on that line in the command prompt... in my case, i had recieved: IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.101
So id replace the default IP address in teh configurator with 192.168.1.101 - Now press Start
- Now go down 1 option and youll see the XMB Network Config Entry for Nethost: with a defualt of 1...
- Set this to whatever number'd connection your using... Meaning if the connection you want to use is ,in the XMB, 3rd on the list, set this number to 3.
- Press start.
- Enable or Disable the Redirection of APP view to host for ms0:/ mounting (for launching folder specific homebrew)
- Press 'O' to save settings
- Now go to where you had extracted the Network Host File System Server file, and run the nethostfs.exe file
- Now, a command prompt should pop up and stay up.. this is opening a port on your computer for the PSP to access, so fire wall'd or not, allow it.
- Now, just go to your IrShell and if set correctly, press: L+Analog-DOWN and it should initialize your connection and in that command prompt, print some multi-threading issues and what not...
- NOW! If running homebrew via PC, press: L+Analog-RIGHT This redirects AKA mounts your nethost0:/ drive as ms0:/
- If you are wanting to stream music and such, just go to the filebrowser, click the '..' AKA cd out of the current directory. Keep doing this until you reach the root of your memory stick... If you click it again, your into the drive selection menu. Here you can view files (if connected) on your HDD via nethost0:/, USb if connected and intialized via usbhost0:/ and UMD via disc0:/... then the reuglar ms0:/ for memory stick
Now, any time you NEED to Wifi - ically connect, just go to the drive selection in the file browser and click 'nethost0:/' and it will auto matically connect.
NOTE
Wifi = wireless = data transfer NO 2.0 USB speed...
I viewed a 356 kb BMP and it took 4 seconds to blit to the screen... So when launching homebrew, please allow sometime to blit...
Also, I suggest going into the configurator and disabling preview of the Saved Data icon and Home Brew preview since it has to transfer the preview data of the image, so it takes like 2 seconds to go from one to another...
Best Regards!

SG57, very nice guide! I don't realize it's so complicated until you've listed all the procedures here. Anyway, it should be helpful. :)
BTW, if you wanna to make PRX plugins for iR Shell, you can post the questions in my forum or PM me here. Any plugins for iR Shell are more than welcome. :Punk:

oh sweet, didn't think you'd except even more PRXs to be loaded, but ok... Ill look into the structure of PRXs on July 8th - July 29 th since ill be away for a while and have time to look and understand them...
Oh and just so you all know, the data transfer from Wifi to PSP is kinda slow... A 356 kb BMP 480x272 image took 4-5 seconds to load and blit... Oh and when Re-mapping/mounting of nethost0:/ to ms0:/ occurs, if you have on the root of your HDD/drive, PSP/GAME/ games here... itll actually load those as usual (duh) but since the eboot icons ARE loaded, it takes 2 seconds to scroll from 1 to another, so I hope there is away to disable the preview of eboots... Im sure there is but still...

There's a way under the configurator to do that, should work just fine. And if your using the shell to launch homebrew you can delete all of the % folders and save some space, opened up about 15mb on mine from that.

already have a problem, i got it working for a few seconds, the wifi nethost part. but all i saw was a folder on my c:\ drive i think it was one of the user files. Anyway, i moved the nethost.exe from my f:\ drive to my C:\ drive, and thats when **** screwed up. Now i don't see any folders whatsoever. no matter what drive the nethost exe is in. the connection works, but all i see is the ".." i erased everything and started from scratch but still nothing. wtf happened?
p.s. the umd browser was a nice suprise, pmf player ftw!

Put the media server file on the root of mine harddisk, changed the ip adress, but when i try to connect, i get the same error.

i got it, it can't be in a root directory or it shows up blank, if you put it in a subdir it will show the folders, but only the ones within that subdir. So basically, wherever the exe goes, that becomes the new root in irshell. Except for the actual root.

Connection
This might be a dumb question but do I have to initiate nethostfs on my PC harddrive everytime I want to stream stuff or should it do it automatically when I attempt the wi-fi synchronisation via IRShell?

Hi!
This homebrew is great!
I can browse my PC files via Wi-Fi, and i can even launch DevHook and see all the isos that i have in my pc, in folder "ISO", but of course DevHook needs to reboot the PSP... then everything is gone
I have to lauch IrShell again.
Another thing that is strange, is that i can't see DAX ZiSO. The aplication is there, as always, but IrShell can't see it.
Regarding the mp3 stream, it works, but hangs a lot because IrShell doesn't make any chache i suppose. Even with the PSP really next to the PC wi-fi adapter, it hangs the same.Last edited by ninja1200; 06-22-2006 at 07:26 PM.

Hopefully peoplea the Wifi Help Thread will help me fix it... if they do, ill make a new tutorial on Improving the speed of the Wifi Net Host launching of apps and streaming.
Actually, I just played Callisto v0.2 using NetHost Wifi connection earlier this morning. It took about 10 minutes to load, but now it has been cut down quite a bit since ive used my new process to speed up the data transfering :humped: Ill make a tutorial on it soon to give the same to others cause im nice :Punk:
