    Default IrShell Usbhost Tutorial

This will show you how to browse all the files on your computer using the psp's usb connection.

    1. Download irshell 1.6 and the usb host file drivers from ahmans site here.
    2. Unzip them to an easy location, I unzipped mine on the root of my d:
    3. Start the usbhoststfs.exe
    4. Install irshell the usual way
    5. Press l+ analog up to start the usb hostfs
    6. Windows will now tell you that new hardware has been found, choose to specify a place for the drivers, then choose the directory where you unzipped the usbhostfs file, eg d:\ in my case. Choose the drivers folder then click next. It should say completed.
    7. Hit l+ analog up again and you should be connected!
Thanks to ahman for this great piece a homebrew somehow it just keeps getting better

Note that whereever you extracted the usbhostsf.exe, you ONLY can view anything inside where it is... Meaning if its in your documents, then you can only view your documents...

My advice, extract it to the root of your memory stick.

...at what speed must I live.. to be able to see you again?...

It doesn't work for me if I put the files in the root. If I put them in the root and try to activiate the USB host on the PSP I get this in the DOS window:

Couldn't stat file /cygdrive/c/cygdrive (no such file or directory)
    Error filling in directory structure

I have an x64 system, and it says that the drivers won't work because it is an x64 system. Are there any 64-bit drivers for this app?

Hmm-- I can't get it to work... Do we put it in the root of our MS or just somewhere on our computer... Mine won't work because it says it can't find any software for it. It doesn't ask where to install the drivers... Any help?

Default How to fix error "Couldn't stat file /cygdrive/c/cygdrive..."

Alright, to fix the error that says "Couldn't stat file /cygdrive/c/cygdrive (no such file or directory)
" try putting the usb files (ie the files you extracted) in a folder with no other files (you may have directories in this folder, just keep the number of directories to a minimum)

If you cant install the drivers, its because you're not telling windows to seach in the folder where you extracted the drivers. Tell windows to search in the "driver" directory that you extracted.

If you dont get prompted to install the driver, it could mean one of 2 things.
    1) You havent activated USB HostFS in IRshell
    2) You have activated USB HostFS previously and mistakenly told windows not to display the unknown device again. To fix this, go to the device manager and uninstall the unknown device. Once that is done, disconnect and reconnect the PSP (This should initiate the driver dialog in windows if you have USB HostFS still activated in IRshell, if not, activate it). Now tell windows to search for drivers in the "driver" folder you extracted and it should work :)

Also, extracting the USB HostFS files to the memory stick is useless, the whole point of this feature is so that you can access file on your PC, so rather extract the USB HostFS files to a location on your hard drive.

    I hope this helps :)

My Question is: How do you get mp4 files to play through the XMB?

I have mapped ms0: to usbhost0: , and usbhost0: contains the usual video paths
    i.e. usbhost0:/MP_ROOT/100MNV01/M4V00001.mp4
I also created a usbhost0:/MP_ROOT/101ANV01/MAQ00001.mp4 (Just in case it was a video format error)

Yet when I map the usb and then launch the XMB (L + up), the video files arent in the Video option. The USB HostFS executable doesnt give any errors in windows either.

    What am I doing wrong?

Perhaps it's because I was working on an earlier OS than was expected for one of these programs, but I couldn't get this going on Windows ME earlier. I got to the point where attempting to do a USB connection in the program caused the computer to install the drivers, but past that any attempts just came up with a "Could not connect" type screen on the PSP, and no reaction on PSP.

I went to the homepage of the USB drivers to see if there was a newer version or one for ME. It looked like it was compatible back to Win98, and I grabbed the most recent version, including a test program that would show when something was connected by USB. Using that I could see that it actually was showing the PSP Type B when iRShell was attempting a connection, but it would only go a few seconds before the PSP error screen would come up.

I was having the same problem as originally stated here, but I was able to get it to work by creating a folder. Now I have a My Media folder with everything in there in separate folders to keep the clutter down. The only problem I'm having right now is that songs are stopping after about 15 seconds of play time. Should we be overclocking when doing this?

Also, when it stops playing, if I try to browse the file, it freezes the PSP.

I feel as if I have tried everything. I have installed the libusb services. Installed the drivers for PSP Type-B fine. Tried to connect and didn't work. Restarted the computer, tried again. Used seperate folder, nope didn't work. Uninstalled, Reinstalled device, nope. Tried different drive, not working. tried several different versions of hostfs and usblink... not yet. Funny thing is, i'm a beta tester and it worked fine with the early betas (before app redirection came). I'm lost here. What can I do?

EDIT: OLD Usblink works... why is this all that works? :Argh: I need the bug fixes and renaming the new Usbhostfs to Usbhostfs_pc won't work... It has to be an issue with the new Usbhost.

manaox2, what error did u get? You don't need to install the usb driver again (in the driver subfolder) if you've already installed a previous version. All you need to do is copy the main directory to your PC (usbhostfs.exe, cygwin1.dll & cygusb0.dll). Then, type the following in a command line window.

    usbhostfs /cygdrive

Ah I never had to type that command with the old one. I guess I'll make a batch and try again.

EDIT: same problems as before. Tried making a batch, IRShell couldn't connect (my firewall still once again (ZAPro) recognized it as a server). Typed it into command as you recommended, still no connection found (of course I've tried shutting down my firewall as well). I can PM you a hijack this log of my computer if you want to see what I'm running (WinXP Pro w/ SP1). I uninstalled the LibUSB 1.10.1 package seeing as the dll being used was provided in the package. Maybe I should delete the cygusb0.dll file from system32 and the windows directory that I placed there also?

PS. I've managed to find that you can list the drive or folder that you wish usbhost to start up in by putting it the /cygdrive/*driveletter*/*foldername* format. for example: "C:\usbhostfs.exe /cygdrive/f/psp" hosts my f drive beginning in the folder named psp. Now how do I get my applications on my drive to show up in the HOST Applications list?

Ok, guys if ur connecting from iR Shell, and windows doe a couple of small fast dings, the same sound when you conenct a USB, but then ir shell gives a warning that it cant conenct here's what to do:
Leave the error message up on iR shell. open device manager, right click PSP Type B, (should hav a question amrk next to it). Go to REINSTALL drivers, click manually, click the top choice, (search) choose the following location: (wherever u put the drivers folder from the usbhostfs package) and windows should find it. if not, follow these directions from lebo11:

If you dont get prompted to install the driver, it could mean one of 2 things.
    1) You havent activated USB HostFS in IRshell
    2) You have activated USB HostFS previously and mistakenly told windows not to display the unknown device again. To fix this, go to the device manager and uninstall the unknown device. Once that is done, disconnect and reconnect the PSP (This should initiate the driver dialog in windows if you have USB HostFS still activated in IRshell, if not, activate it). Now tell windows to search for drivers in the "driver" folder you extracted and it should work

if ne1 has more questions contact me i might be able to help.
